Über diesen Tauchplatz

Overview

Lipah Bay is a shore dive at Lipah, east of Jemeluk along the Amed coast of north-east Bali. Amed Jepun Divers calls it colourful and calm and says it is often described as one of Amed's most complete coral reefs. SSI's dive site guide on scubago gives the position -8.3502, 115.6834, which is the point used here; it lies about 25 metres off the OpenStreetMap coastline, and OpenStreetMap maps a reef named Lipah corals about 480 metres east-south-east of it.

How the site is dived

Both sources describe an entry from a sandy beach onto a slope. Amed Jepun Divers describes coral blocks, pinnacles and sponge gardens, with healthy reef and a coral nursery when heading right, and shallow coral gardens leading to deeper shelves. SSI likewise says to swim to the right and follow the ledge to a few coral blocks. Amed Jepun Divers says a coral restoration project has worked in the bay since 2016, with two nurseries at 6 and 16 metres. It gives a maximum depth of 40 metres and an average of 12 metres, and calls the deeper zone shark point; this record uses 40 metres as a single-source maximum.

Marine life

Amed Jepun Divers names green turtles, blue-spotted stingrays, lionfish, anemonefish colonies and nudibranchs, fusiliers and butterflyfish around the pinnacles, and occasionally juvenile whitetip reef sharks under table corals at about 30 metres. SSI names turtles, blue-spotted stingrays, clownfish, Clark's anemonefish, scorpionfish, lionfish and ghost pipefish.

Conditions and level

Amed Jepun Divers rates the site for all levels, including beginners, and says it has no strong currents. That is an operator statement, not a measurement. Neither source gives a current strength, water temperature, visibility range or season that this record uses.
