Mapating

A submerged rock lost in open blue water off Maricaban's far side, Mapating is Anilao at its most serious. A plateau at 12–18 m falls away in stepped drop-offs, and at ~45 m a black cave mouth roughly 10 m wide punches into the cliff, running ~10 m before splitting into twin tunnels — home to eerie bioluminescent flashlight fish in the dark chambers. The whitetips that named the site are now scarce, replaced by marble rays near the entrance and pelagics streaming past the rock. Unforgiving blue-water currents demand slack-tide timing and an experienced captain just to find it.
