Dive Sites & Location
The lodge's exceptional location in Tulamben places it just a short distance from world-renowned dive sites, many accessible directly from the shore or via short traditional boat (jukung) rides.
- USAT Liberty Wreck: The legendary World War II shipwreck lies less than 50 meters from shore, starting at a shallow depth of 5 meters and descending to a maximum depth of 30 meters. This coral-encrusted wreck is teeming with an incredible diversity of marine life, including over 400 species of reef fish and 100 species of pelagic fish, making it perfect for all certification levels, including snorkelers. Night and sunrise dives here are particularly magical.
- Coral Garden: Just a few hundred meters from the Liberty wreck, Coral Garden is a vibrant shallow reef with a maximum depth of 25 meters, featuring an artificial reef with statues. It's an excellent site for beginners, snorkelers, and macro photography, home to blue ribbon eels, cuttlefish, octopus, various shrimps, frogfish, and nudibranchs.
- The Drop-Off (Tulamben Wall): Formed by ancient lava flows, this dramatic wall dive begins at 3 meters and plunges to depths of 80 meters, offering opportunities to spot schooling fish, turtles, and occasional reef sharks.
- Seraya Secrets: A short drive away, Seraya is a celebrated muck diving site, a macro paradise where divers can discover rare creatures such as harlequin shrimp, ghost pipefish, mimic octopus, and ribbon eels.
The water temperature in Tulamben typically ranges from 26°C to 30°C, with generally calm conditions and mild currents, offering excellent visibility between 8 and 30 meters.
