Jetty · Reef

Nestled off the friendly village island of Arborek in the heart of Raja Ampat's renowned Dampier Strait, Arborek Jetty is a truly special dive site that promises an accessible yet profoundly enriching experience for divers of all levels. We consider this a must-visit for anyone exploring the region's incredible biodiversity.
As divers descend, they will find a captivating blend of artificial structures and natural reef. The jetty's pilings are draped in a kaleidoscope of soft corals, creating a vibrant habitat that teems with life. Beyond the jetty, a healthy coral garden extends, featuring a mix of hard and soft corals, sponges, and sea fans that form a breathtaking backdrop for underwater exploration. The topography includes sandy bottoms and sloping reefs, offering varied environments to discover.
Arborek Jetty is a paradise for both macro enthusiasts and those hoping for larger pelagic encounters. Divers will regularly find themselves surrounded by thousands of schooling fish, including glassfish and various snappers, creating dynamic and immersive scenes. Keep a keen eye out for the masters of camouflage, the Tasselled Wobbegong (Eucrossorhinus dasypogon), often found resting on the reef. The site is also renowned for its incredible macro life, where patient divers can spot the elusive Pontoh's Pygmy Seahorse (Hippocampus pontohi) tucked away in corals, as well as the wonderfully camouflaged Painted Frogfish (Antennarius pictus), pipefish, and numerous nudibranchs.
For those seeking larger marine animals, we often encounter impressive schools of Bumphead Parrotfish (Bolbometopon muricatum) and graceful Longfin Batfish (Platax teira). During the peak season, typically from October to April, the nutrient-rich waters of the Dampier Strait attract magnificent Reef Manta Rays (Mobula alfredi) that can be seen gliding past the jetty.
While Arborek Jetty offers generally easy conditions, divers should be aware of potential boat traffic, especially around the jetty itself. We always recommend maintaining situational awareness and following your instructor's or guide's briefing. The site's shallow depths and calm conditions make it ideal for long bottom times, superb for photography, and a fantastic location for dusk or night dives, when different marine creatures emerge.
