About This Dive Site

Cabanbanan Sanctuary is a dive site shown on Sunset Cove Beach & Dive Resort’s map of the Romblon area. This partial guide uses the site name and position from that map. The location has not been independently confirmed by a local diver.

The source name alone does not establish legally protected status.

Current access, entry arrangements, depth limits, currents, visibility and seasonal conditions remain unconfirmed for this record. The operator’s training labels do not establish safe conditions for a particular dive. Confirm the exact site and a suitable dive plan with a local operator.

What the Sunset Cove table lists

Sunset Cove Beach & Dive Resort's dive-sites page, read on October 8, 2026, lists Cabanbanan Sanctuary as number 11 of its 22 Romblon dive sites, with a depth figure of 6–25m and an Open Water badge. That column is headed Max Depth yet shows a range, so this guide treats the figure as the operator's listed depth band, not a measured site profile. The same page says all 22 sites are reached by banca directly from the resort's beach on Alad Island, most within a 5 to 30-minute boat ride, and that the dives are led by its SDI-certified guides; it gives no ride time, entry point or route for Cabanbanan Sanctuary itself.

A dated protection statement from another operator

Cabanbanan Divers, a dive and beach resort on Romblon Island, published on its German-language website a dive-site table archived on August 7, 2008 that lists a Cabanbanan Hausriff, its house reef, at 5 - 18 m as a Fisch-Schutzgebiet, a fish protection area, with many different species, turtles possible from April to July and entry from the beach. A taucher.net review dated January 18, 2009 says a fish protection area was set up directly in front of that resort in 2006 on the owner's initiative, that he watches that no fishing takes place there, and that the stretch of coast showed an extraordinary number and variety of fish on that visit; a March 14, 2015 review calls the house reef very beautiful and relatively rich in fish. These are dated statements about a privately initiated protected stretch, not evidence of legal status today. Whether Sunset Cove's Cabanbanan Sanctuary pin covers that house reef is not established, and the two depth figures are not reconciled here.

Two further German-language taucher.net reviews

A taucher.net review of Cabanbanan Divers dated November 4, 2012 says the owner, Joe, protects his house reef from fishing. A review dated January 3, 2013, by a reviewer who says the family has dived at Romblon since 2002 from Cabanbanan Beach Resort, says the fish protection area around the resort is guarded day and night by guards, the only way to be sure no fishing happens. The same reviewer says some turtles have settled in the Cabanbanan area, that blacktip sharks use a bay as a nursery for their young. These are two visitors' dated impressions of a privately guarded stretch, not a legal designation, and they do not say that Sunset Cove's Cabanbanan Sanctuary pin covers it.
