About This Dive Site

Cogon Point is a separate Apo Island site

Cogon Point appears separately from Coconut Point in both Atlantis and Mahi Mahi's site lists. Master Liveaboards places Cogon on Apo Island's eastern side. This guide keeps those identities separate: Coconut's nickname, depth table and reported western route are not evidence for Cogon. When arranging a trip, confirm that the operator means Cogon rather than another site described under a similar or combined name.

Slope and wall terrain

Master Liveaboards describes sand giving way to coral and then a steep wall. Mahi Mahi describes soft corals and sponges on a gentler slope before the wall becomes more pronounced. Together, these accounts suggest a dive with changing terrain; neither supplies a surveyed route or guarantees that every dive will cover the same sections. Their publication dates and independence are not established, so agreement should not be mistaken for two recent field surveys.

Wildlife described by operators

Mahi Mahi reports jackfish, bannerfish and batfish, with possible turtle and reef-shark encounters. Master Liveaboards also mentions trevally and rays. These are attributed operator descriptions, not a current census, and this update does not assign scientific species identities from those broad common names. There is no verified encounter frequency or seasonal sightings calendar here. A visitor's dated photograph or observation can help improve the guide without establishing that the same animal is always present.

Conditions, depth and experience

Both descriptions warn about strong currents and discuss drift diving. Mahi Mahi presents the site as an option for experienced divers, but does not define a formal certification requirement in the text reviewed. No numerical minimum or maximum depth is established by these sources for Cogon. Do not transfer Coconut's published depth range to this site simply because the two names sometimes appear together.

Before booking, ask which section is intended, the planned depth, the operator's experience requirements and how entry and collection will be arranged. Ask whether the site remains suitable for the day's conditions and what alternative is available if the plan changes. The presence of a slope does not by itself establish beginner suitability. This guide has no verified current forecast, visibility range, temperature range or preferred month for Cogon.

Map and information still to confirm

The existing operator-map location is retained; this review does not improve its positional accuracy. It should help identify the listed site, not direct a boat or underwater route. Current access arrangements, fees and any temporary restrictions need confirmation with the operator. A restriction mentioned for a neighbouring site has not been applied to Cogon.

This partial guide was reviewed on 1 October 2026 without local-diver verification of this update. Please use the correction link for dated site observations, clearer depth evidence or a naming correction, stating which route you actually visited.
