About This Dive Site

Coral Garden, Talikud Island

This partial guide concerns the Talikud Island reef in Davao Gulf. It should not be confused with other Philippine sites called Coral Garden. PADI's Talikud entry, credited to South Shore Divers, describes a coral reef with a reported shallow profile of 5–20 metres.

The same account mentions several coral forms, reef fish, turtles and octopuses. These are source reports, not promised sightings or a recent survey. Visibility and wildlife on a particular trip remain unconfirmed.

Plan the visit

Confirm the Talikud location, boat departure and actual water entry with your operator. A boat transfer to the island and a shore entry into the water are different parts of a trip. The reviewed entry does not establish a current departure timetable, price or guide-to-diver ratio.

The site's full depth extent remains unresolved. A previous comparison mixed this reef with a namesake elsewhere; that comparison cannot establish a local depth limit. Ask which reef section and depth profile your booking covers. This guide does not establish current access arrangements or suitability for a particular diver.

Firsthand accounts of shallow reef visits

In a 2015 first-time diving account, travel writer iamjosemanuel places Coral Garden and Marine Park west of Talikud and reports that local divers from Barangay Linosutan use the name Linosutan. That reported local usage helps explain another name a visitor may hear; it does not establish surveyed site boundaries. The writer describes hard and soft coral beds, tropical fish and garden eels, with banded sea snakes mentioned as a possible encounter.

The same account describes an introductory outing arranged by Tide and Tribe, with one guide assigned to each guest, approximately 20–30 minutes underwater and a depth around 25 feet, or 7.6 metres. Its photographs are also captioned around that depth. These details document a particular historical service and shallow visit, not a present booking promise, qualification standard or measurement of the reef's deepest point. The reported boat journey from Davao took about 45 minutes; a current transfer should be confirmed separately.

A separate report by Rowena Bautista-Alcaraz, retained as a May 2009 reprint of a Manila Bulletin article, describes Coral Garden on the second day of a Davao diving trip. The writer reached 22 feet, about 6.7 metres, during a dive lasting less than an hour and reported seeing a sea turtle. This is another individual shallow visit, not proof that all routes follow the same profile or that turtles will be present. The reprint and its original newspaper attribution represent one account, not two independent observations.

Contrary evidence

  • PADI Certificate (as part of a package for Andaman)

One of the cited sources, Coral Garden Resorts, is for a dive site in Andaman and explicitly states 'PADI Certificate' as part of a package, rather than 'Open Water' as a general certification requirement for the Davao Gulf Coral Garden.

  • Open Water

PADI states that Open Water certified divers can explore most areas of Coral Garden, which aligns with the original claim and refutes the extended argument about a different dive site.
