About This Dive Site
Eagle Point Resort lists Devil’s Point among its Anilao dive sites, separately from Mainit Point.
The operator also uses Burijar Point for Devil’s Point. That alternative name has not been independently checked; exact site boundaries and entry arrangements remain unresolved.
Location unresolved: The retained source coordinate remains unverified. This partial guide has no map marker or navigation point.
Depth, current strength, visibility, seasonal conditions, access arrangements and diver suitability remain unknown in this partial guide. Confirm the intended site and a suitable dive plan with a local operator. No local-diver verification has been recorded.
Dated field reports
The California Academy of Sciences published "Twilight Zone Scouting Dive at Devil's Point" on May 2, 2014, written by Bart Shepherd, director of Steinhart Aquarium. It calls Devil's Point "one of my favorite places in the Verde Island Passage" and describes "an incredible diversity of soft corals growing on a rock pinnacle that projects out of the surface of the ocean, just at the southwest point of Maricaban Island." The post adds that the shallow parts of the reef are covered with hard and soft corals, sponges, tunicates and other marine life.
In the same post the Academy team says it used scooters to cross a large patch of sand at about 180 feet deep and found a rock pinnacle surrounded by thousands of reef fishes at about 250 feet deep. That was a deep rebreather scouting dive by a research team, so those depths describe that team's dive profile and are not a recreational depth range for the site.
Soft corals and larger fish
A second Academy post, "Day Five" of its Expedition to Anilao blog (dated May 21, 2010), says the site "is known for the profusion of soft corals, and being close to a deepwater passage, you have the chance to see some larger fishes." It describes a pinnacle of rock jutting straight out of the ocean. The post recalls that soft coral taxonomist Dr. Gary Williams once commented that in 10 minutes he saw more species of soft coral there than in 10 years of diving elsewhere. It names soft coral genera including Sarcophyton, Lobophytum, Sinularia and Xenia, and also lists gorgonians, sponges, tunicates, fanworms, nudibranchs and hydroids. The team chose to spend the day there because it was "the further dive spot from the resort."
Other mentions and open questions
Underwater Asia's Anilao diving guide (undated) describes Sepok Point on the western-most tip of Maricaban Island and Mapating Rock nearby, and then says: "Further to the east is another shallow, submerged rock called Devil's Point." The Academy's wording of a pinnacle that projects out of the surface, at the southwest point of Maricaban Island, differs from this. The two accounts are recorded side by side and are not reconciled here.
The Anilao operator dive map numbers Devil's Point entry 23 and gives 3 to 35 metres (10 to 115 feet), a steep to gradual slope, a healthy coral reef and mild to strong current. Its common-critter list is shared almost word for word with many other entries on the same map, so it is not treated as a sighting record for this site. Eagle Point Beach and Dive Resort's dive-package page, read from a Wayback Machine copy retrieved 2026-10-08, lists an additional boat cost for trips to "Ligpo dive trip, devil point, coconut dive spot, Bonito, and red palm." The Underwater Kwaj nudibranch pages, created 14 June 2015, caption one Glossodoris photograph "The one below was at Devil's Point."
