About This Dive Site
Largahan, Apo Island
Largahan is an Apo Island reef site with coral patches and sandy areas. Mahi Mahi Dive Resort describes bubbles emerging through dark sand between the corals and attributes them to geothermal activity. Its named entry also reports small subjects such as nudibranchs, flatworms and scorpionfish. These are operator observations, not a promise of particular sightings.
A closer look at the reef
Divernet's first-person account calls the site Largahan Point and describes looking for small animals around coral bommies on sand. The writer reports nudibranchs, scorpionfish and green turtles during that visit. This supports a reef-and-macro focus without establishing encounter frequency or conditions on your trip.
Ask the guide which section is planned and whether the route includes the bubbling sand. The reviewed accounts do not establish a measured water temperature at the bubbles, so this guide does not describe them as a bathing hot spring.
Current strength, the full depth range and suitability for your experience need local confirmation. Do not choose a route solely on an older blanket claim of calm conditions or suitability for every diver. This partial guide does not confirm current departure times, access fees or visibility.
Operator pages on the bubbles, the wall and the name
Bongo Bongo Divers' Largahan page, captured on 7 October 2026, says Largahan means leaving and that by tradition it was the last place to dive before leaving Apo Island. It describes a large sandy patch where volcanic bubbles stream up from the seabed, a wall between 20 and 30 metres, a mix of soft and hard coral throughout, and a huge turtle rock where the operator says hawksbill turtles are normally seen; it lists 30 metres as the maximum depth, an operator figure rather than a surveyed limit. Sea Explorers' Dauin dive-sites page, last modified on 2 September 2026, places Largahan on the northwest side of the island and calls it the exit point for divers coming from Coconut Point. It describes an easy dive along a cliff with soft and hard corals including tube anemones and black corals, a sandy area near the end of the dive where gas bubbles emerge, and tells divers to look out for turtles, sea snakes and bumphead parrotfish; it calls the site suited to beginners.
Macro reports and a note on dated sources
Dive The World's undated Apo Island page says Largahan has a seabed of dark volcanic sand where octopus, nudibranchs, flatworms and ribbon eels could be spotted, that scorpionfish and frogfish are likely on the ledge-strewn reef, and that streams of bubbles are present. Sea Explorers' July 2026 day-trip page describes a mix of coral reef, sandy areas, volcanic formations and occasional bubbles rising through the seabed, with reef fish, moray eels, nudibranchs, scorpionfish, turtles and smaller macro creatures. Dauin Diving Center's page of 28 July 2025 reports many big sea fans and soft coral, frogfish and scorpionfish often hiding in the rocks, and lists a visibility of 20 metres and a beginner rating; that visibility is a single operator's figure. These accounts agree on bubbling sand and macro life but give no measured water temperature at the bubbles, so the earlier caution stands.
