About This Dive Site

Mabuti: an operator-described wall dive

Mabuti is a named dive site at Apo Reef off Mindoro. Pandan Island Dive Resort describes it on the southeast side of Apo Island within the reef, with afternoon light on the wall and corals along the dive. Do not confuse this destination with Apo Island off Negros.

Depth and route uncertainty

Pandan gives a 12–40 m range; Gustav's Place uses 6–35 m for Mabuti Wall. The accounts do not establish matching endpoints or a surveyed boundary. The displayed single-source profile should be read alongside these differing descriptions. Confirm the planned section and depth directly with the operator.

Wildlife and planning

Gustav's reports blacktip reef sharks and titan triggerfish here. These are attributed possibilities, not a promise for your dive. This partial guide leaves current conditions and a universal certification minimum unconfirmed. Ask about access, the expected current and pickup procedure before choosing the dive.

How operators describe Mabuti

Pandan Island Dive Resort's site list, captured on 7 October 2026, says Mabuti has a depth between 12 and 40 meters, lies on the south east side of Apo Island, and is recommended in the afternoon when the wall is illuminated by the sun. It adds that this is also the site for schools of bumphead parrotfish and that the corals at the end of the dive are some of the best to be found on Apo Reef. Gustav's Place Beach and Diving Resort lists Mabuti Wall at a depth of 6-35m and calls it an excellent place to spot Black Tip Reef Sharks and Titan Triggerfish, with large moray eels along the wall, White Tip Sharks under some overhangs, and Moorish Idols, Porcupine Fish and Peacock Grouper among the common reef fish.

An archived page and a community listing

An archived copy of the Marco Vincent Divers Apo Reef page, a Wayback snapshot of 28 October 2016, lists Mabuti Wall at a depth of 15ft to 200+ft. It says the shallows are the perfect habitat for Black Tip Reef sharks, that Titan Triggerfish can be seen crushing coral, and that large moray eels along the wall are sometimes cleaned by wrasse. Its list of common fish matches the Gustav's wording closely, so the two are treated as one lineage rather than independent confirmation. The Scubago listing for Apo Island - South (Mabuti), captured on 7 October 2026, sits under Apo Reef in Mindoro. It says wildlife sightings are based on user generated content and shows green turtle (31 sightings), whitetip reef shark (30), barracuda (15), hawksbill turtle (14) and blacktip reef shark (5). Its descriptive sentence refers to Negros island, which does not fit Apo Reef off Mindoro, so that prose is not used.

Planning notes

Gustav's Place says there are 19 dive spots around Apo Reef and that the spots visited depend on weather, high tide, low tide and the training level of the divers, and adds that not every dive site is suitable for all divers. Three depth ranges are on record for Mabuti: 12-40 meters from Pandan, 6-35 meters from Gustav's, and 15ft to 200+ft from the archived Marco Vincent Divers page. They are not reconciled here. Ask the operator which section of the wall is planned, the intended depth, the expected current and the pickup procedure.
