About This Dive Site
Merriel’s Rock is a named dive in operator listings for the Anilao area. Bambu Villa lists it separately from Mapating Rock and Devil’s Point. Manila Scuba Diving Adventure also includes Merriel’s Point/Rock in its Anilao list. These references support a named partial guide, but do not establish surveyed geographic separation or present access.
Manila Scuba Diving Adventure uses the name Merriel’s Point/Rock. This is retained as source naming context, not an independently verified alias or a second dive site. The exact boundaries and relationship to neighboring dive sites remain unverified.
Location unresolved: The exact dive-site position has not been established for this partial guide. It has no map marker or navigation point.
Depth range, current strength, visibility, seasonal conditions, entry arrangements and diver suitability remain unknown in this partial guide. Confirm the intended site and current access with a local operator before planning a dive. No local-diver verification has been recorded.
The one profile found
Eagle Point Resort's dive-site page, in a Wayback Machine snapshot of 13 April 2026, places Merriel's Rock on the northwest face of Maricaban Island, north of Bursar Point, about 25 to 30 minutes by boat from its pier. It gives an average depth of 60 feet and a maximum of 80 feet, describes conditions as calm with strong currents that can become very rough, and visibility up to 80 feet. It notes that strong currents may be encountered in the shallow reefs and gullies, calls the site rich in many different species, and advises diving it in the morning because the surface gets rough in afternoon winds. The same page names Devil's Point as the southwest point of Maricaban, known as Burijar Point on the charts; Bursar and Burijar are spelled differently on that page and are not reconciled here.
Bambu Villa's depth table gives Merriel's Rock an average of 18 m and a maximum of 24 m, the metric equivalent of the resort's figures, so the two are treated as one lineage. No dated firsthand report, independent depth record or coordinate was found in this review, and the guide remains partial.
Two further listings
Manila Scuba Diving Adventure's dive-site page, in a Wayback Machine snapshot of 28 September 2026, lists Merriel's Point/Rock in its Anilao, Mabini, Batangas list alongside Mapating Point, Bonito and Maricaban Island, confirming the dual spelling noted above; the page's depth and current figures are for the whole area and are not site-specific. Lakwatsero's Anilao travel guide, with page dates of March 2023 and June 2025, names Merriel's Rock among the area's popular dive sites, next to Mapating Rock and Devil's Point, in a list it says exceeds 20 known sites. Both are bare listings. They add two independent organisations naming the site but no depth, position or dated dive report, so the Eagle Point and Bambu Villa figures remain the only profile.
