About This Dive Site
Moalboal Bay is listed as a dive site in the Moalboal area of Cebu. The source describes a sandy bottom with large rocks and identifies it as a muck dive.
This guide follows the point named Moalboal Bay (Muck diving) in Scubago/SSI, not the whole bay. Its relationship to the locally listed Goby Point remains unconfirmed; the names are not treated as established aliases. The source point has not been surveyed or verified by a local diver for this guide and is not a confirmed entry or navigation waypoint.
This partial guide keeps unconfirmed details explicit. Current access, entry arrangements, depth limits, currents, visibility and seasonal conditions remain unknown here. Confirm the intended location and a suitable dive plan with a local operator.
What the sources describe
The Underwater Photography Guide's Moalboal article, published 20 June 2013 and last modified 4 November 2015, treats Moalboal Bay as marking the end of what it calls the mega-wall: instead of steep walls it features a shallow sandy area, and the marine life is described as markedly different from that on the wall. The article names Pegasus fish, leaf pipefish, stargazers and dragonets, and describes a resident dog-faced water snake that it says loves to take a nap in the area. For night dives it reports juvenile bobtail squid among dead coconut leaves and the water snake starting to hunt, and it calls the site great for long dives with a maximum depth of seven meters, with time to watch cowry shells slowly dig into the sand. These are that author's observations at the time of writing, not a current survey.
Scubago/SSI's page for the point named Moalboal Bay (Muck diving), read 8 October 2026, describes a shallow muck site with a depth of 5–10 meters, good visibility, a sandy bottom dotted with large rocks and minimal current, and says it is used for afternoon dives and open water training. Its sightings list names boxer shrimps, signal gobies, nudibranchs, pegasus and chocolate starfish; the page carries 126 user ratings and names DIVESTORY of Basdiot, Panagsama Beach as a dive centre catering the site. The seven-meter maximum in the 2013 article and the 5–10 meter range on Scubago are both kept here as attributed figures and are not reconciled.
Names that overlap
Moalboal Dive Center's scuba-diving page, read 8 October 2026, lists Moalboal Bay among its Moalboal dive sites without describing it. Magic Island Dive Resort's site list, read the same day, does not use the name; its Goby Point entry, at 5–10 meters depth and 10–15 meters visibility, describes big rocks on a sandy bottom with boxer shrimps, signal gobies, nudibranchs and pegasus, wording that closely matches the Scubago/SSI Moalboal Bay text. Whether the two names describe the same place is not established here, and they remain separate as stated above.
