About This Dive Site
What the sources describe
The provincial tourism itinerary places Olang Marine Sanctuary in Olang, Maria, Siquijor and describes recovery work following typhoon damage. PADI has a separate Olang Sanctuary dive-site profile, and Bahura Dive Siquijor names Olang Sanctuary in its boat-diving offer.
Planning a visit
Olang is a sanctuary option to discuss when arranging dives around Siquijor. Confirm whether scuba diving or snorkeling is currently permitted, how to reach the approved entry point, and whether a guide, fee or advance arrangement is required. Historical recovery descriptions are not a current assessment of reef condition, and an advertised site list does not guarantee a departure.
What remains unknown
This English partial is based on published sources, not a recent Diveity inspection. Exact navigation coordinates, independently checked depth limits, visibility, water temperature, seasonal suitability and certification requirements remain unverified. Wildlife sightings and current access are not guaranteed.

The sanctuary’s recovery history
The Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation’s 2025 Siquijor report places Olang’s 21.4-hectare protected area on the eastern coast of Maria municipality and records its establishment in 2002. The report describes major storm damage followed by coral restoration and fish-habitat rehabilitation. Its sections refer to different storms and periods, so this guide does not attribute every damaged patch to one event or claim that restoration has finished.
For the 2025 assessment, teams surveyed the sanctuary’s eastern and western boundaries separately, then combined their observations during processing. The resulting sanctuary-level account is therefore not an exact description of a single entry point or the whole route of a commercial dive. It adds evidence about a named protected area without supplying navigation instructions.
Different survey depths tell different stories
The report distinguishes earlier rehabilitation-zone observations around 7–8 metres from 2025 scuba observations around 4–6 metres and shallow snorkeling observations around 2–4 metres. Coral cover differed between those areas. These are sampling depths, not measured minimum and maximum dive-site limits, and comparing them does not establish that all reef sections recovered at the same rate.
CCEF also reports a separate adjacent fished reef, rather than treating everything outside the sanctuary as part of the same survey result. Inside Olang, its fish assessment identifies parrotfishes, surgeonfishes, goatfishes and groupers among the principal biomass contributors. These dated group-level findings are not a promise of a particular animal on a future dive.
The management review records strong community involvement alongside gaps in visitor orientation and administrative record-keeping. This helps explain why a conservation award or published operator listing should not be used as a substitute for confirming today’s entry arrangements.
