Welcome to Poblacion Sanctuary, one of Dauin's most cherished and accessible dive sites, perfect for divers of all levels. Situated directly off Dauin's town center, this vibrant marine protected area offers a serene underwater experience, making it an ideal location for both new Open Water divers and experienced photographers seeking macro wonders. We will find a gently sloping reef that transitions from a shallow coral garden to sandy, critter-rich terrain, providing diverse habitats to explore.

Dive Conditions

• Difficulty: Beginner
• Depth: Divers will explore depths ranging from a shallow 2 meters down to a maximum depth of 24 meters, with an average dive often around 15 meters.
• Current: Typically mild, offering relaxed diving conditions.
• Temperature: The water temperature is comfortably warm, generally ranging from 26°C to 30°C throughout the year.
• Certification Required: Open Water certification
• Site Types: Reef, Shore
• Hazards: While boat traffic is generally prohibited within the sanctuary itself, divers should always be aware of potential boat activity near entry and exit points.

What Divers Will See

Poblacion Sanctuary is renowned for its abundant marine life. Divers can expect to encounter graceful Green Sea Turtles (Chelonia mydas), often seen grazing on seagrass or resting on the reef. The healthy hard coral formations provide shelter for numerous reef fish, including the charming Barrier Reef Anemonefish (Amphiprion akindynos) nestled in their anemone homes, and various species of Damselfish (Pomacentridae spp.) darting amongst the corals.

Keep an eye out for the striking Orange-lined Triggerfish (Balistapus undulatus), and if we are lucky, we might spot Hawksbill Turtles, schools of Yellowtail Barracudas and Snappers, or even elusive Frogfishes. The site is also a haven for macro enthusiasts, with opportunities to discover fascinating creatures like various Nudibranchs, Shrimp, Crabs, and Pipefish. We may also observe colorful Clownfish, Parrotfish, and Trumpetfish, adding to the vibrant tapestry of this underwater garden.

Its easy shore entry and typically calm conditions make it the most accessible and beginner-friendly dive site on this coast, frequently utilized by local operators as a check-out and training dive for newly certified divers. The dive site offers a delightful combination of shallow coral gardens and deeper black-sand areas, providing a rich diversity of marine encounters. The fish here are accustomed to divers, allowing for close and memorable interactions, making every dive a truly engaging experience.
