About This Dive Site

A slope beside Yapak

New Wave Divers locates Punta Bunga beside Yapak 1 on Boracay's northwest side. Its description emphasizes a slope with ledges and recesses, rather than treating it as the same wall route as its neighbour.

Different depth references

The operator's page highlights deeper sections and reports observations around 32–35 m; its summary lists 32–40 m, while displayed dive logs include 30 m. Those figures describe different outings or features and do not establish a whole-site minimum. This guide keeps those scopes separate from the listing's existing depth evidence.

Plan a specific outing

The source reports reef fish, rays and sharks, without guaranteeing encounters. Ask which ledges or section are proposed and what experience is required. A nearby site name does not make Punta Bunga and Yapak interchangeable, and this partial account does not resolve every qualification or access question.

A shared operator description

WaterColors Boracay's site list calls Punta Bunga a reef and wall dive from 9 to 24 metres for Open Water divers, 16 minutes from Station 3 and 12 from Station 1, and describes it as the start of a series of walls which connect to Yapak, with a drop-off full of cubbyholes where moray eels, lionfish, groupers and triggerfish reside and stingrays usually seen on the sandy bottom at 24 metres. DiveGurus Boracay's page, read in October 2026, gives 9 to 30 metres, repeats the series-of-walls and ledges-and-crevices wording, adds schools of fusiliers and surgeonfish, and rates the site for intermediate divers. The Alta Vista de Boracay blog of November 2024 gives 9 to 24 metres, mild currents, very good visibility and about 15 minutes by boat from Station 1, and adds white tip and grey reef sharks. The cubbyhole sentence recurs almost word for word across these pages and in New Wave's own summary, so they are one text lineage rather than independent observations.

Other published figures

The Philippine Dive Guide page of January 2026 lists Punta Bunga at 24–25 metres as intermediate wall diving adjacent to Yapak 1, a 15-minute boat ride from Station 1, and names it a progression dive for divers building toward Yapak, with Advanced Open Water for the deep sections. Traveloka's August 2026 article also places reef sharks and stingrays around 24 to 25 metres and recommends Advanced Open Water, while New Wave's own June 2024 blog listed 5 to 20 metres and calm conditions, which conflicts with the 32–40 metres on its site page. A PADI instructor's Divezone comment of April 2019 cited "Punta Bunga (35m)". None of these ranges is reconciled here.

Dated dive logs

New Wave's log of 16 December 2024 describes a 35 metre drift dive on Nitrox with a teenage white tip shark alongside for a few minutes and two big tuna at the edge of the wall. Its log of 14 May 2025 records a descent through a huge school of small sardines, hundreds of red-tooth triggerfish and bannerfish along the wall, a clown triggerfish, six big tunas, no sharks that day, and an exit at the shallower wall of Balinghai. Two scubadiving.place reviews list maximum depths of 17 and 38 metres.
