What the sources say about Punta del Sol

PADI's dive-site page, fetched in October 2026, spells the name "Punta de la Sol" in its description and "Punta del Sol" in its title. It describes "a shallow dive site that features a sandy bottom with scattered coral formations and small rocky outcroppings" where divers may encounter "lionfish, scorpionfish, and octopus". It gives a maximum depth of "only 18 meters", calls the site "suitable for beginners and snorkelers", lists boat entry and the dive types reef and ocean, names PADI Open Water Diver as useful training, and suggests a dive computer and surface marker buoy. The listed position is 7.05987, 125.68001, the point this guide uses.

The name also belongs to a beach resort. A dive-site listing on underwaterphotography.com, undated, carries the note "visit us here in the Punta del Sol Beach Resort Samal Island,Philippines" with resort telephone numbers, and gives ranges of "typical depth is 0-50 Metres" and "typical visibility is 10-30 Metres". Those ranges are the directory's broad entries, not measured values for this site, and the page is resort context as much as dive evidence.

A ScubaBoard post of January 26, 2007 in a Samal Island thread said that "Paradise Resort and Punta del Sol also offers shore diving", and added the blunt caution, "In Punta del Sol you might not see any fish at all." That is one diver's view from 2007 and sits against PADI's boat-entry listing and its list of lionfish, scorpionfish and octopus; the two are not reconciled here. A Lakwatsero travelogue published in October 2008 describes a Talikud Island loop tour from Sta. Ana Wharf whose afternoon leg would "Pass by Kaputian Beach, Punta Del Sol" on the way back to the wharf; that itinerary passes the place by boat and does not record a dive there.

The DivePlanner Pro aggregator page repeats the eighteen-meter figure and calls the site "beginner-friendly", but its text mirrors PADI's data and is treated as derivative. No dated dive log from Punta del Sol itself was found in this review, so whether the site is the resort's house reef, how it is entered today and what the reef currently holds remain to be confirmed with the resort or a Davao operator.
