About This Dive Site
Sawang is listed by Scubago/SSI as a dive site in Siquijor. The source describes coral-covered boulders, a sandy slope and a small wall. Local operator pages place Sawang in the Tubod, San Juan area.
This follows the source-named Sawang dive in the Tubod, San Juan area, not the similarly named eastern hamlet. The exact entry and dive boundaries remain unconfirmed. The published source point has not been surveyed or verified by a local diver for this guide.
This partial guide keeps unconfirmed details explicit. Current access, entry arrangements, depth limits, currents, visibility and seasonal conditions remain unknown here. Confirm the intended location and a suitable dive plan with a local operator.
Coral slope and a narrow passage
Marine Conservation Philippines places its Sawang account on southwest Siquijor near Coco Grove, consistent with the San Juan area described here. It reports patches of hard and soft coral, giant clams, and a narrow swimthrough with room for only one diver at a time. The account contrasts the coral slope with rubble and sand farther down. The passage description is not an invitation to enter: its current condition and suitability for the planned dive remain unverified.
What the operators add
Sea Explorers' Siquijor page of April 2026 lists Sawang at 5 to 30 metres and explains the name: here it means "to anchor", because the site lies "in between two cliffs" that can protect boats from the waves. It describes "a beautiful hard coral reef" and names ghost pipefish, frogfish, lionfish, nudibranchs, banded sea snake and turtles as possible sightings, calling it "a classic dive but never boring". The PADI listing, credited to Bahura Dive Siquijor, places Sawang in San Juan "just after the Tubod Marine Sanctuary", says it suits beginners and certified divers, lists barracudas, jackfish, green turtles and hawksbill turtles, and describes night dives with blue-ringed octopuses, giant marine worms it says reach 5 to 7 metres long, nudibranchs and flatworms. It names Open Water, Advanced Open Water or refresher training as useful, boat entry, and equipment including booties, a dive computer and a surface marker buoy. Dive Point Siquijor's text on Scubago adds giant clams, "gardens of hard and soft corals" and "the chance of also seeing electrical clams" to its boulder, sandy-slope and small-wall account.
Names and neighbours
Sea Pearl Divers' page of November to December 2025 lists "Sawang" and "Sawang - Bagacay" as two separate numbered spots, both marked "Not Available", so the name may cover more than one entry point. Swake Freedivers gives its meeting point as Sawang Point in Barangay Tubod, San Juan, used during Amihan, with Dumanhog used during Habagat, and says Sawang is commonly used for beginner freediving sessions "due to accessibility and manageable conditions". These are each organisation's own statements; the depth ranges and sightings are not reconciled with one another or verified here.
