About This Dive Site

Silica Reef is a named dive site in Puerto Princesa Bay, Palawan. PADI lists it, REEF records the site name, and an Aggressor dive log separately names it.

This is a Puerto Princesa Bay dive site, not a Honda Bay island-hopping stop. PADI also uses the name Tangdol Reef; that alias is not independently confirmed here. Location unresolved: the approximate PADI pin falls within the coastline uncertainty zone. This partial guide has no map marker or navigation point. Confirm the intended site and current conditions with a local operator.

Depth, currents, visibility, seasonal conditions, access and diver suitability remain unknown in this guide. No local-diver verification has been recorded.

What PADI's listing says

PADI's page, titled Silica Reef (Tangdol Reef), read on 8 October 2026, says the reef starts at around 5 meters and slopes to deeper waters with vibrant corals, colorful fish and occasional rays. It calls the site known for excellent visibility and tranquil conditions and ideal for divers of all levels. The listing gives boat entry, a maximum depth of 98 feet or 30 meters, useful training of PADI Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver, and rays as the common sighting. These are one listing's statements, whose contributor is not named, and this guide does not adopt them as established conditions.

A dated liveaboard visit

The Philippines Aggressor adventure log for the trip dated 7 June 2025 records, under 8 June 2025 in Puerto Princesa, a second dive at Silica Reef after PPC Reyes Reef and before Red Cliff. The sightings listed were nudibranchs, Pegasus seamoth, octopus, mantis shrimp, banded sea snake, filefish, frogfish, pufferfish, winged pipefish and moray eels. The same log gives the water temperature for the trip as 28C-30C and recommends a 3mm wetsuit; those are trip-wide notes, not a measurement at this reef. A list from one dated dive is not a frequency of sightings.

REEF's zone list

REEF's zone list for Puerto Princesa area lists Silica Reef alongside Maris Rock, Finger Reef, Badjao Reef and Red Cliff, each marked as having coordinates. The list records names only and gives no description, depth or conditions.

A second directory listing

Scubago, the dive-site directory of SSI, lists a Silica Reef under Palawan, Puerto Princesa/Honda Bay, on a page read on 8 October 2026. It says the site is fifteen minutes away from the launching site (The Baywalk), perfect for beginners and macro photography, with the top of the reef between 4-7 metres and walls that go down to a maximum depth of 22 metres. It lists frog fish, jaw fish, schools of barracuda, pipe fish, green sea turtles, rays and nudibranchs among the underwater creatures. The page does not name its contributor. Its 22 metre maximum differs from the 30 meters in the PADI listing above, and the two figures are not reconciled here. The creature list is a directory description, not a record of what any diver saw on a particular day, and the sentence about the launching site does not say which boat or operator makes the fifteen minute run.
