IntermediateTingo Point

About This Dive Site
A wall at northern Olango
Joe's Scuba Shack places Tingo Point at Olango Island's northern end. Its account describes a sandy approach to a drop-off beginning around 25 m, with wall features continuing toward 40 m. The 25 m figure identifies the drop-off, not the shallowest point of the whole site.
Depth and sightings need context
The source discusses deeper terrain and historical shark encounters, but does not support the listing's former 85 m maximum. This guide leaves the site's extrema unknown rather than converting those passages into a dive range. Wildlife reports do not promise a sighting.
Confirm a specific route
Ask your operator which wall section is proposed and what experience and conditions are needed. This partial account is a source-attributed orientation to the named site, not a current report of access, visibility or wildlife activity.
Names and position
Scotty's Action Sports Network's Tingo Point page, captured by the Wayback Machine on 24 April 2024, places the site at the tip of Olango Island about 5.6 kilometres from its dive centre and warns not to confuse it with Thresher Point, which it describes as lying off Tingo Point. A Polaris Dive Center description reprinted on Bohol-Philippines.com (snapshot of 8 November 2024) instead calls the northern tip Mabini Point, otherwise known as Tingo Shark Point, with a drop-off around 35 metres. Whether these names describe one site or neighbouring ones is not resolved here. Tingo is also a barangay of Olango, and SunStar reported on 23 September 2025 that Lapu-Lapu City has a marine sanctuary in Barangay Tingo and plans an eleventh sanctuary at Sabang, Olango, to protect blacktip sharks.
The wall as the operators describe it
Scotty's describes a sandy slope to 25 metres, a wall to about 60 to 65 metres, and a bottom section for technical divers holding at least a normoxic trimix certification, where a small speedboat wreck of 7 to 8 metres was last seen around 85 metres and may have slid deeper. Kontiki Divers' site list describes the same sandy slope to a drop-off at about 25 metres, then a ledge at about 40 metres that it calls the shark point, with a big cavern and a warning to watch bottom time; Joe's Scuba Shack, updated 10 August 2022, gives a rocky wall with nooks and caverns to 40 metres and sharks sometimes coming up the sand from 60 to 70 metres. Scotty's reports mild to high current and treats the dive as a drift, and the Polaris text speaks of strong surges and fierce unpredictable currents. Both Scotty's and Kontiki rate the site for advanced divers.
Shark reports are historical
Scotty's says thresher or hammerhead sharks can be spotted around 25 metres early in the morning; Kontiki says you may see them if you are lucky; Joe's Scuba Shack states that sightings are not as frequent as they were a few years ago and that most divers seeking threshers go to Malapascua instead; and a philippinedives.com guide captured in March 2026 says Tingo Point once produced hammerhead and thresher encounters at its cleaning stations but that sightings have declined significantly. No source here reports a recent encounter, so expect a wall dive and treat any shark as a bonus. SunStar's report of 30 December 2023 lists Tingo Point and Thresher Shark in Tingo among the 53 sites named in Lapu-Lapu City's 100 peso environmental-fee ordinance, then awaiting the mayor's signature; the fee's current status is not confirmed here.
