About This Dive Site
Overview
Waterloo is a drift and wall site in the Amed area of north-east Bali, south of the island of Gili Selang. Dive Concepts describes an oceanic dive along a wall with impressive coral cover and some small caves, and calls it a challenging spot for experienced divers. Asia Dive Site calls Waterloo a newer spot with good coral and marine life; its page carries no date.
Location
No source gives a position for the site, so this record has no map point. Asia Dive Site places three coral-covered rocky outcrops about 500 metres south of Gili Selang and says Waterloo lies even further south, without giving a distance. Dive Concepts places it in the Amed area without saying more. Both sources name Waterloo as a site apart from Gili Selang, which has its own record, and from the three outcrops.
How the site is dived
Dive Concepts says this boat dive is always a drift dive along the wall, with the option of going deeper as a deep adventure dive, and that the wall goes very deep but there is no need to follow it to the bottom. The same page's short summary instead says the site is dived from the shore, in the middle of a coral garden not far from the beach. The two statements disagree, and this record marks the entry as disputed rather than choosing between them.
Depth
No source gives a depth range for Waterloo. Dive Concepts shows a figure of 20 metres next to its depth note without saying what it measures, so this record sets neither a minimum nor a maximum depth. Asia Dive Site's 10 to 40 metres covers its whole Gili Selang page, not this site.
Marine life
Dive Concepts says divers can see big oceanic animals such as sharks and pelagic fish, and large schools of yellowtail sawtail, which it describes as endemic. These are operator statements, not survey results, and neither source says how often any animal is seen.
Conditions and level
Dive Concepts says divers need to be aware of the current and able to adapt to a changing environment, and calls Waterloo a challenging spot for experienced divers. This record rates it advanced on that basis; no source names a required certification. No source gives visibility, water temperature or a season for this site.
