Otdima

Overview

Bird's Head Seascape's Dampier Strait dive map lists Otdima Reef at the GPS position S 00 32.423 E 130 37.865, which is the point used here; the map prints the minutes with stray spaces. Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort describes Otdima as a dynamic and fun dive site that is more of an atoll, so that currents can come from several directions; it says the currents depend on the tides, are unpredictable and can change. Papua Diving says the site is mostly known for its macro life and for a group of sweetlips that gathers under a small rock surrounded by pygmy sweepers, which makes it a favourite with photographers. Both operators list Otdima separately from Blue Magic.

Marine life

The resort reports lots of schooling fish, turtles and sharks, and describes the corals as diverse and the ecosystem as pristine. Papua Diving's account centres on the macro life and the sweetlips. Bird's Head Seascape and Papua Diving both give the photography highlights as wide and macro.

Conditions and level

The resort gives a depth range of 5 to 25 metres and a current of mild to strong. It rates the site intermediate to advanced and recommends that divers hold an advanced certification or have at least 15 to 20 dives. Papua Diving rates it intermediate and says it is not snorkel friendly. The sources give no visibility, water temperature or season for the site.
