Sebayur Kecil

Overview

Sebayur Kecil is a sheltered reef at the small island of Sebayur Kecil in Komodo National Park, which Dive Tribe Komodo puts about 15 kilometres from Labuan Bajo harbour. PADI's dive guide, whose text it credits to the member Dive Komodo, describes it as a protected bay with hard coral reef and gives the position -8.50845, 119.70240, which is the point used here. That point lies just off the north side of Pulau Sebayur Kecil as OpenStreetMap outlines the island. Both operators call it a site for beginners.

How the site is dived

Dive Tribe Komodo describes a reef of mixed hard and soft coral on an easy slope that runs from the shallows down to around 18 metres, with staghorn and table corals on the reef flat and giant clams in the structure, and gives 18 metres as the maximum depth. PADI says divers who go deeper at a spot called "the Finger" can search for pygmy seahorses. Dive Tribe calls it one of the best night dives around Labuan Bajo, and says the short boat run makes it a common choice for try-dives, Open Water training, check-out dives and half-day trips, and a place that stays diveable when weather keeps the far sites off the table.

Marine life

Dive Tribe names schooling bumphead parrotfish as the signature sight, with fusiliers, blacktip reef sharks along the edges and green turtles in the shallows. In the shallows it lists nudibranchs, octopus, mandarinfish, crocodilefish, blue-spotted stingrays, porcelain crabs in anemones and Christmas tree worms. PADI lists reef fish, rays, boxfish and sand eels, and macro subjects including ghost pipefish, frogfish and scorpionfish.

Conditions and level

Dive Tribe gives the current as mild, suitable for all levels, and says a gentle flow can occasionally run along the exposed face; it gives visibility as about 15 metres on average, usually best in the morning. These are operator statements, not measurements. PADI tags the site as reef and wall, while Dive Tribe describes a gentle slope. The sources give no water temperature, entry type or season range that this record uses.
