Overview
Boga Wreck, also called Kubu Wreck, is a cargo ship sunk on purpose as an artificial reef in the Kubu village area, north of Tulamben's main dive area, and dived from the shore. The dive centre Amed Jepun Divers says the Boga Wreck, also called the Kubu Wreck, is a purpose-sunk ship lying just north of Tulamben's main dive zone, a 40-metre-long cargo vessel that rests upright on a sandy slope. The SSI dive site guide on Scubago says it was submerged in 2012 in the Kubu village area, 30 metres from the shoreline and not far from the USAT Liberty wreck. bali.live says the ship was sunk intentionally in September 2012 to create an artificial reef, that statues, cars and other objects were sunk with it, and that the wreck gradually sinks deeper down the slope each year. Dive Concepts, a dive centre with a Tulamben base, calls it an exploration wreck dive; its page summary describes it as next to Tulamben and gives 2011 as the year it was sunk, against 2012 in the other sources.
No source gives a position bound to the wreck that agrees with the sources' own description, so this record has no map point. Scubago's page data gives -8.2469, 115.5772, which lies about 400 metres off the coastline as OpenStreetMap maps it, while the same page says the wreck is 30 metres from the shoreline; the point is not used.
How the site is dived
Amed Jepun Divers lists it as a wreck dive and a shore dive. bali.live says access is from the shore, 300 metres from the road leading to Kubu Monkey, and that porters can carry equipment to the entry point. Amed Jepun Divers says the ship is remarkably intact and suits wreck penetration practice, guided only.
Depth
The sources describe the depth of the wreck more than of the site. Dive Concepts says the bow lies at 18 metres and the stern at 36 metres, and bali.live repeats both figures and adds that the wreck's maximum depth was only 30 metres at first. Amed Jepun Divers says it rests on a sandy slope starting at 15 metres and descending to over 35 metres, and gives the site a maximum of 40 metres and an average of 18 metres. Dive Concepts' depth box shows 30 metres. This record uses 40 metres as the maximum, from Amed Jepun Divers, and marks it as disputed; it sets no minimum.
Level
This record rates the site as advanced. Amed Jepun Divers asks for an advanced diver certification and recommends it for advanced divers or those working toward deep or wreck specialties. Dive Concepts calls it ideal for level 2 or Advanced divers together with divers holding the deep diving specialty for 40 metres, and for wreck and deep specialty courses; bali.live says the same. The record sets no certification requirement.
Marine life
Dive Concepts names moray eels and lionfish, schools of barracuda and trevally, and a family of batfish living in the steel frame, and says the wreck has not yet been colonised by coral. Amed Jepun Divers says the surrounding area is starting to bloom with reef life as corals slowly colonise the hull, and names schools of fusiliers, lionfish, large groupers, moray eels, clownfish and angelfish on the wreck, stingrays, garden eels and flounders on the sandy slope, and at depth the chance of eagle rays or reef sharks. Scubago names moray eels, angelfish, goatfish, anemonefish, fusiliers, clownfish, stingrays and flounder. These are operator and community statements, not survey results; none of them says how often any animal is seen.
Conditions
Amed Jepun Divers says that because of the depth the visibility is often excellent, and describes fewer crowds and a quieter ambiance. No source gives visibility or temperature figures, a current or a season.
Sources and lineage
bali.live's account of the wreck's depths, marine life and level follows Dive Concepts' page closely and is not independent of it. Amed Jepun Divers and Scubago are worded independently. Nobody has verified this record in person; it was researched and written by an automated process from the sources named here.
