Coral Garden (Tulamben)

Coral Garden is a shallow shore dive on the Tulamben coast of north-east Bali. A 2009 Jakarta Post report places it directly in front of the Paradise Resort and describes a reef that runs from 2 to 15 metres, shallow enough that the same article recommends it for snorkelling as well as diving. Divers walk in from the beach, as the reporter's group did after diving the USAT Liberty wreck nearby.

What divers report

The Jakarta Post describes both soft and hard coral of light density that is nonetheless rich with marine life, and notes that the average depth and generous light make the site a favoured night dive and a productive spot for macro photography. The operator Blue Season Bali, which lists Coral Garden among the Tulamben sites it visits, says the site offers more variety than the wreck and is loved by photographers for its diversity of macro life, naming ribbon eels, anemone fish, mantis shrimp, countless nudibranchs and colourful reef fish. The operator also reports an anemone field, the best corals at around 5 metres and small reef sharks; that last sighting is a single operator report and should be read as such.

Blue Season's site card for Coral Garden lists 26 to 30 °C water, 5 to 20 metres and calm conditions, but the identical card accompanies its Drop Off entry, a wall the same page says drops beyond 70 metres, so these card values are treated as generic: water temperature and currents are recorded as unknown rather than estimated.
