About This Dive Site
Amos Rock, Tubbataha
Also called Southwest Rock in the reviewed dive guides, Amos Rock is a North Atoll wall dive. Bluewater Dive Travel describes large gorgonian fans and coral growth, with reports of groupers, snappers and Napoleon wrasse. These are reported wildlife opportunities, not a promise of sightings on a particular trip.
A wall route shaped by conditions
Master Liveaboards describes currents that vary from a gentle drift to a stronger flow along the wall. Its itinerary and other descriptions do not agree clearly enough on the exact compass position to use that wording as navigation advice. Confirm the named route and entry point during the boat briefing.
Plan the actual outing
Some travel pages discuss night diving here, but Master's current Tubbataha itinerary schedules sunset dives and explicitly excludes night dives. Do not assume a night outing is available. Check your vessel's current requirements and schedule before booking.
The park's published 2025 rules require space around marine wildlife and prohibit chasing or blocking animals. This partial guide does not establish current visibility, a surveyed depth range or a guaranteed itinerary stop.
Which end of North Atoll?
Master Liveaboards' itinerary places Amos Rock off the northwestern tip of North Atoll and says it is named after a local ranger. Atlantis Azores' trip page instead groups it with Malayan Wreck and Wall Street at the southern end of North Atoll, and the Tubbataha Management Office's 2025 fish inventory lists a station "Amos Reef, N. Atoll, not too far from the Ranger station", surveyed on 22 June 2025 (Ecosystem Research and Monitoring Report 2025); Oceana Maria places the ranger station at the southern tip of North Atoll. Those two placements are incompatible and are both recorded here rather than resolved.
Dated visits
The Philippine Aggressor II log of 21 March 2026 records a whale shark moving along the reef edge past the whole group, with barracuda, jacks, snapper and batfish and reef sharks hunting tuna; the Philippine Aggressor log of the same date records turtles, whitetip, blacktip and grey reef sharks, surgeonfish, moray eels and lobsters. Bill Stewart's ScubaBoard report of May 2009 lists Amos Rock among sites dived repeatedly during a week in which weather restricted site choice. These are single-trip observations.
Operator descriptions of the wall
Dive The World describes a wall section covered in sessile life with large grouper, snapper, dogtooth tuna, trevally and Napoleon wrasse, hunting around the lip of the wall at dusk, and shallows with sea cucumbers, flatworms, nudibranchs and crustaceans at night; Master adds black coral bushes, barrel sponges and crevices, and says the current can range from a gentle drift to a strong ride. Liquid Diving Adventures (October 2020) lists whip corals and large fans; Mabuhay Travel's Tagalog-language post of 4 June 2019 adds mantas, eagle rays and night-time nudibranchs and gives March to June as the season. Solitude's "top 5" page and the Llantrisant Sub-Aqua Club's 2026 trip page carry identical Amos Rock text and count as one account. None of these pages states a surveyed depth, so the disputed maximum above stays open.
