About This Dive Site
Bahura on the Dauin coast
This guide covers Bahura in Dauin, Negros Oriental. Local operator accounts describe a combination of sand and coral rather than a single uniform reef. The name also appears elsewhere in the Philippines: a previously listed Anilao source concerns Bahura in Tingloy, Batangas, and cannot establish conditions or wildlife for this Dauin guide.
Reef, sand and a short wall
Bongo Bongo's dedicated Bahura page describes dark sand, coral gardens, a short wall and lighter sandy patches where it reports bubbles rising from the seabed. Its site entry labels the setting reef and wall and lists a maximum-depth field of 18–24 m. That is the operator's published figure, not an 18 m minimum depth or a survey of the whole site.
Dauin Diving Center describes a sandy slope alongside hard coral, with shore access and a listed maximum of 25 m. Its account places the site close to its own diving centre. These descriptions support a varied coastal outing, but do not establish identical routes, access arrangements or a common maximum for every operator. Confirm the section included when booking, particularly if the short wall or sandy patches are your main interest.
A possible dusk focus
DDC reports mandarinfish using the hard coral and describes possible courtship activity around dusk. That gives a reason to discuss a specifically timed outing with a guide; it is not a promise that a daytime visit includes the same opportunity. Ask whether the operator currently offers that route and has recent observations from the intended area.
DDC also reports small reef fish, crustaceans, nudibranchs and octopuses, with occasional turtles. Bongo Bongo specifically mentions Nembrotha nudibranchs and bearded scorpionfish. These are attributed wildlife reports. They do not establish encounter percentages, a reliable species count or the presence of every animal named in older descriptions.
Details to confirm locally
The contrasting habitats make the intended route important: a dive concentrating on coral and dusk activity may differ from one exploring the sandy slope and wall. Explain your photography or wildlife interests when asking about the outing, and confirm its timing, entry and planned depth. Do not infer a standard itinerary solely from the shared site name.
This source review does not resolve the separate current-strength dispute or establish recent visibility measurements. The page retains its labelled historical values and remaining research gaps. Descriptions of good visibility in promotional copy are not a forecast for your visit, and a listed qualification is not an assessment of the conditions on the day.
