Prepare for an iconic Red Sea adventure at the Blue Hole in Dahab, a dive site renowned globally for its dramatic topography and vibrant marine life. This unique submarine sinkhole, plunging straight down from the shoreline, offers two distinct diving experiences, catering to both recreational and highly experienced technical divers.
The Blue Hole is essentially a massive, near-shore sinkhole, approximately 60 meters across at the surface, dropping to depths exceeding 100 meters, with some sources stating up to 130 meters. Its inner rim is a bustling reef, while its outer wall harbors the legendary "Arch."
The Blue Hole and its surrounding reef boast a rich tapestry of Red Sea marine life. Divers can expect to encounter:
The Blue Hole is accessible directly from shore, making it a convenient dive site. Currents are generally mild, especially within the hole itself. Water temperatures range from 21°C in winter to 28°C in summer, with most divers finding a 3-5mm wetsuit comfortable year-round. Visibility is typically excellent, often exceeding 20-30 meters.
The Blue Hole is an intermediate difficulty dive site, requiring an Advanced Open Water certification for most recreational dives, particularly for exploring beyond the shallow saddle. Given the inherent hazards of overhead environments, depth, and decompression obligation, we strongly recommend diving with a certified instructor or experienced guide who is intimately familiar with the site. Respecting your certification limits and training is paramount for a safe and enjoyable experience at this truly extraordinary dive site.
