The refutation states the source refers to 'The Canyons' in Puerto Galera, but PADI lists 'Canyons' in Subic Bay with a maximum depth of 30m.
PADI Dive states that Canyons Reef has depths as shallow as 5m and as deep as 30m, which supports the maximum depth of 30 meters.

Read source context
While some sources describe currents at Canyons Reef as generally mild, other sources, including some cited for the general description of the site, indicate that currents can be strong, especially in deeper sections, which could offer an exciting drift dive experience for advanced divers.

The refutation claims currents can be strong, contradicting the original claim of 'mild'. Mangos Dive Center supports the idea of varying currents, not consistently mild.
Mangos Dive Center mentions that currents are not very strong in the area but do appear at times, and can reduce visibility dramatically.

About This Dive Site
Canyons Reef is a reef-diving location near Grande Island in Subic Bay. Mangos Dive Center places its named reef southwest of the island, while Scubaholics Subic describes Canyons on the west side. These operator descriptions provide orientation, not a surveyed boundary or a navigation fix. This guide does not transfer information from similarly named dives elsewhere in the Philippines.
Shallow reef and deeper terrain
Scubaholics lists a 3–28 metre profile and describes an entry over sand at about 5 metres. Its route continues toward a wall, with an open-water descent or passages through large crevices. The account does not give passage dimensions or establish their present condition. A listed route is not a recommendation to enter an overhead environment.
Mangos describes coral and rock formations, including shallow sections around 15 feet, approximately 4.6 metres. It says the southern end becomes deeper and can have stronger current. This is a distinction between parts of the reef, not a measured current forecast. Confirm which section the operator intends to visit rather than assuming the whole site shares its shallow training conditions.
Reported visibility and wildlife
Scubaholics reports visibility commonly around 7–15 metres, while Mangos gives visibility up to 15 metres. These are operator accounts, not live measurements or guaranteed conditions. Mangos lists broad groups such as anemonefish, groupers, lionfish, pufferfish, nudibranchs and frogfish. Its occasional reports of octopuses, cuttlefish and sharks do not establish particular species, encounter frequency or a reliable season.
Choosing a suitable route
Both operators advertise introductory or Open Water diving here. That does not make every depth, crevice or current-exposed section suitable for every participant. Ask about the planned maximum depth, entry and exit, boat arrangements and the conditions expected for that route. This review does not establish site-specific water temperatures, seasonal reliability, current permit requirements or independent coordinates. The existing map point has not been moved or newly verified.
How neighbouring wreck dives end on this reef
Mangos Dive Center's site list, captured on 7 October 2026, describes a Landing Craft Utility sunk right at the entrance to the bay off the Canyons Reef and says a fun dive plan on that wreck includes a swim east up to Canyons reef. Arizona Dive Shop's wreck-diving page, read from a Wayback snapshot of 26 May 2024, says its Upside Down LCU dive generally starts on the wreck before swimming east while ascending to 12-18 meters to end on the Canyons reef site, and that its Cage and Barrel dive often leaves when no-decompression time gets low for a short swim to Canyons reef to extend the dive on a shallow patch of reef. Those are route descriptions, not reef depths.
Other published profiles
A Wayback snapshot of 10 September 2024 of the Subic Dive site list gives The Canyons as a reef dive alongside and south of Grande Island at 4 to 36 meters. PADI's Canyons listing for Subic Bay, credited to Mango's Dive Center, says the reef is named because its bottom consists of canyons formed many years ago, calls it suitable for all levels with depths as shallow as 5 m and as deep as 30,. Camayan Divers' reef-diving page, captured on 7 October 2026, describes clear visibility outside Grande Island, a drop off to the main channel and coral canyons to explore, calling it probably the best reef dive in the bay. The 28, 30 and 36 metre maxima are separate published figures and are not merged into one range here.
