About This Dive Site

A moving route south of Boracay

New Wave Divers describes Channel Drift as a current-driven reef dive in the channel south of Boracay. Its published route covers approximately 15–32 m. That route range is not a universal site boundary; the listing retains its separate unresolved maximum-depth evidence.

What the operator reports

The account describes soft corals and fish such as trevally and snapper around the reef. These are attributed reports rather than guaranteed encounters or measured abundance.

Discuss the drift plan

New Wave presents this outing for Advanced Open Water divers or above who are comfortable with current. Confirm the proposed depth, required experience, entry and boat pickup with your operator before booking. The exact route and suitability depend on the outing; this description does not establish one mandatory entry technique.

How other operators describe the channel

WaterColors Boracay's site list gives Channel Drift a starting depth of 10 metres and a maximum of 35 metres, requires Advanced Open Water, and flags timing for tide and current and reduced visibility after rains from mainland river run-off; it puts the boat ride at 12 minutes from Station 3 and 16 from Station 1. Its text says strong tidal currents flow through the strait, taking divers on a joy ride through canyons and crevices, with patches of impressive coral growth including numerous gorgonians and occasional white tip sharks and trevallies. DiveGurus Boracay's page, read in October 2026, also gives 10 to 35 metres and describes strong tidal currents carrying divers through a maze of canyons, ridges and coral-covered slopes in the natural channel between Boracay and Panay Island, with large sea fans and sponges, schools of trevallies, fusiliers and surgeonfish, and white tip reef sharks and stingrays as occasional visitors. The canyons-and-current wording is shared between these two pages and is treated as one lineage. Eclipse Dive Center lists the site for experienced divers and for the advanced course, promising the feeling of flying underwater, and the My Boracay Guide page calls it a thrilling drift dive for advanced divers.

Conflicting depth figures

New Wave's site page gives 15–32 metres, WaterColors and DiveGurus give 10–35 metres, and New Wave's own June 2024 blog listed 10–18 metres with 15–30 metre visibility and a narrow channel between two reefs. Two diver reviews on scubadiving.place record maximum depths of 28 and 31 metres. These figures are presented side by side and not reconciled here; the listing's separate maximum-depth evidence remains unresolved.

Older diver remarks

A Divezone comment of 3 July 2012 from a diver who said he had dived Boracay about twenty times singled out the drift dive in the channel as a favourite, and Divezone's destination page notes that currents are very gentle at most local sites but can be fierce in the channels between the islands. New Wave's page says site briefings matter more than usual here and that divers should listen to the entry and pick-up plan.
