Reef

Adjacent to the historic Lusong Gunboat, Coral Garden is a vibrant and accessible dive site in Coron, often hailed as one of the healthiest shallow biomes within the Calamianes archipelago. This continuous coastal reef offers an expansive, rolling garden of pristine stony corals and overlapping cabbage-coral formations, nourished by highly oxygenated, nutrient-rich tidal flow.
Divers will find the Coral Garden primarily shallow, with depths ranging from 2 m to a maximum depth of 15 m, making it an ideal location for snorkelers, freedivers, and Open Water certified divers alike. The water temperatures are consistently warm, typically ranging from 27°C to 31°C, with an average of around 29°C year-round, ensuring comfortable conditions for extended exploration.
While the current is generally mild, divers may experience a light to moderate flow that can create an enjoyable drift diving or snorkeling experience, allowing us to effortlessly glide along the reef. This gentle current also contributes to the site's vitality, bringing in nutrients that sustain the diverse coral ecosystem. However, we advise divers to be mindful of potential surge, especially on days with rougher surface conditions. Surface sunburn is another common caution due to the shallow, sunlit nature of the dive site.
The Coral Garden is a spectacle of marine biodiversity. Divers can expect to encounter a rich concentration of schooling reef species amidst the vibrant coral landscape. Keep an eye out for graceful Spotted Eagle Rays gliding by and serene Green Sea Turtles navigating the reef. The site is also home to numerous Clownfish peeking from their anemone hosts and a variety of colorful Parrotfish munching on corals.
Beyond the listed species, we often find anemonefish, butterflyfish, angelfish, damselfish, chromis, surgeonfish, and triggerfish. Look closely, and you might spot nudibranchs, shrimps, and even giant clams nestled within the reef. The coral formations themselves are a highlight, featuring branching, table, digitate, and massive corals, complemented by soft corals like leather coral, gorgonians, and sponges.
Coral Garden serves as an excellent dive site for beginners and snorkelers, offering crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life close to the surface. It is also frequently utilized as a vibrant off-gassing safety stop for technical divers ascending from the deeper wrecks nearby, such as the Lusong Gunboat. Its accessibility and beauty make it a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the underwater wonders of Coron.
