About This Dive Site
F4 Phantom, Subic Bay
This is a deep aircraft-wreck site outside Subic Bay. Scubaholics Subic describes a stripped F4 airframe on sand and lists a depth of 44 metres. Scuba Tech also places the wreck outside the sheltered bay, but its page uses both 44 and 45 metres. Those accounts do not establish a surveyed minimum and maximum.
History and condition
The idea that the aircraft was discarded from a carrier is an operator interpretation of its missing equipment, not a documented loss record. The exact aircraft identity and circumstances of its arrival on the seabed remain unresolved.
Planning a visit
Scuba Tech describes the site as weather-exposed and suitable for technical divers. Confirm the actual depth, required training and the operator's plan before choosing this dive. Published visibility descriptions are not a forecast. This partial guide provides no cockpit-entry or wreck-penetration route and makes no guarantee of current access.
Depth figures and training requirements
Operator pages do not agree on depth. Mangos Dive Center's site page, captured on 7 October 2026, gives 44–45 metres and requires Tec 45 for its own trips. Scubaholics Subic's page, archived in June 2026, gives 44 metres with deep-diver or Tec 40 training as a minimum and nitrox recommended. Arizona Dive Shop's listing, archived in May 2024, and Dive3D both give 40 metres, Dive3D for deep-certified or technical divers only, and Johan's archived page lists 44 metres as a technical dive. These are operator figures for a wreck outside the sheltered bay, and the 4–5 metre spread is unexplained.
Why the aircraft is stripped
Every account is inference from the condition of the airframe. Scubaholics believes the jet was scuttled from a carrier because the avionics, engines and ejection seats are gone, the wheels are down and the canopy is absent. Mangos reaches the same conclusion and adds that the aircraft most likely served with the US Navy as an F-4B, J or N model, a guess it does not support with a record. Dive3D says local records suggest a non-functional airframe from USS Midway or Cubi Point used for deck fire drills before disposal, but it does not cite those records. No official loss or disposal document was reviewed for this guide, so the aircraft's identity stays open.
What divers find
Dive3D scanned the wreck in January 2026 and reports good conditions on that day, a compact airframe that can be covered in one dive, and a recognisable cockpit, swept wings and engine intakes despite missing panels. Scubaholics describes a sandy bottom with reliably good visibility and residents including fusiliers, bannerfish, lionfish and the occasional stonefish, and notes that some divers pose in the open cockpit. Mangos says only the airframe remains. One scan day does not establish typical visibility, and the site's weather exposure should be confirmed with the operator.
