Dive Site Features

• Depth: The wall begins at a shallow 5 meters, cresting near the reef top, and plunges dramatically to a maximum depth of 60 meters. This significant drop-off ensures an exciting dive well past recreational limits.
• Site Type: As its name suggests, this is primarily a spectacular wall and drop-off dive, adorned with a thriving reef ecosystem.
• Wall Structure: Divers will find the face of the wall to be a magnificent tapestry of hard and soft corals, riddled with numerous overhangs and small caves that invite exploration.
• Entry Point: The entry to this remarkable dive site is typically about 100 meters off the beach.

Marine Life

• Gorgonian Sea Fans: The wall is famously covered with some of the largest and most impressive gorgonian sea fans in the region, creating a stunning visual spectacle.
• Pygmy Seahorse (Hippocampus bargibanti): Keen-eyed divers will delight in searching for the elusive pygmy seahorse, often perfectly camouflaged within the branches of the gorgonian sea fans.
• Nudibranch (assorted): The wall's intricate folds and coral formations are home to an array of colorful and sometimes rare nudibranch species.
• Giant Frogfish (Antennarius commerson): Divers frequently encounter well-disguised giant frogfish patiently waiting for prey.
• Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas): We often spot graceful green sea turtles gliding effortlessly through the blue.
• Whitetip Reef Shark (Triaenodon obesus): Keep an eye out for whitetip reef sharks, which are occasionally seen resting in the small caves or patrolling the deeper sections of the wall.
• Barrel Sponge (Xestospongia testudinaria): Large barrel sponges add to the rich biodiversity of the wall.
• Other Encounters: Expect to see schools of barracudas and jackfish, various scorpionfish, and clouds of vibrant anthias, adding to the dynamic underwater scenery.

• Certification Required: An Advanced Open Water certification is required to safely explore the depths of Gorgonian Wall.
• Current: Currents at Gorgonian Wall can be variable, sometimes strong, making it an excellent location for exhilarating drift dives.
• Water Temperature: Divers can expect comfortable water temperatures, typically ranging from 26°C to 29°C.
• Hazards: Due to the significant depth and potential for variable currents, divers should be mindful of depth limits, current conditions, and decompression obligations. We always recommend diving with a local instructor or guide familiar with the site.
• Best Time to Dive: The dive site is particularly rewarding in the afternoon when the sunlight rakes across the wall, highlighting the vibrant colors of the corals and marine life, making it ideal for both wide-angle and macro photography. Cabilao generally offers excellent visibility, often ranging from 20 to 40 meters. The best diving season is typically from January to May, or more broadly, November to June.
