About This Dive Site
Lighthouse Reef in Subic Bay
Mangos Dive Center describes Lighthouse as a reef site with a wall reaching roughly 20 m. The operator uses it for training and night dives, offering a reef-focused option alongside Subic’s better-known wrecks. Those uses describe the operator’s programme, not an assurance that every route or day suits every diver.
What to look for
The named account reports reef fish, crabs, shrimp, cuttlefish and nudibranchs. These are possible observations rather than guaranteed sightings. Mangos links the site’s name to a beacon light mistaken for a lighthouse, a useful distinction when discussing the location with local guides.
Plan with current information
This partial overview does not verify present visibility, night-dive availability, entry arrangements or minimum qualification. Confirm the exact site, route and conditions with the operator. A wall-depth report is not an instruction to descend to that depth, and this description does not independently re-survey the map position.
Three operators, three depth figures
Scubaholics Subic's reefs page, in a Wayback Machine snapshot of 23 January 2026, places Lighthouse Reef in the back of the bay near the shipyard and describes a large shallow reef with great coral outcroppings that then slopes off into the deep. It lists the site for Discover Scuba and Open Water divers with a depth of 4 to 40 metres and says it is frequently used for open water training. Johan's Beach and Dive Resort, in a Wayback snapshot of 10 September 2024, describes a small island across the upper bay with a nice shallow reef used for training and a deeper wall, giving 4 to 33 metres. Mangos Dive Center's page, captured 7 October 2026, says the wall drops to about 20 metres. Three operators therefore publish three different maximum depths; this guide records the spread and does not adopt any of them as a verified range.
Two stories behind the name
Scubaholics says the reef is obviously named for the lighthouse sitting on the island of Parola, also known as Mayanga. Mangos says the site got its name from local fishermen who commonly mistake the marker light on the radio beacon tower for a lighthouse. The two explanations are not reconciled here.
Access and use
Mangos says the site is just ten minutes from its dive centre and is normally visited for night dives because most of the wreck sites are closed for that type of diving; it describes the reef as commonly used for less experienced divers while also accommodating the more advanced diver. The SSI MyDiveGuide page for Subic Bay, captured 8 October 2026, presents Lighthouse Reef as the bay's reef alternative to wreck diving, describing vibrant coral and marine life. These remain operator and directory descriptions; current night-dive availability and training use should be confirmed locally.

Open Water
While the record states 'Open Water' for Lighthouse Reef, Mangos Dive Center describes the site as accommodating 'more advance diver' and refers to frequent currents requiring 'advanced diver comfort'.
