About This Dive Site

Medicare: distinguish the north and south routes

Peter’s Dive Resort describes Medicare North and South under its Tangkaan Point area guide. The names refer to their position near the Padre Burgos medical facility. The operator describes hard and soft corals and distinguishes a steeper southern route, extending to around 30 metres, from a shallower northern route suited to a longer second or third dive.

Earlier retained directory evidence describes the North/South depth relationship differently. That disagreement remains unresolved; confirm the named route rather than treating this operator account as a settled comparison.

Choose the actual route

Ask your operator whether the booking covers North, South or both, and confirm the planned depth and conditions for that itinerary. The operator’s description includes moderate current; it does not support assuming that every Medicare dive is calm or suitable for every experience level.

Wildlife and identity limits

Turtles are mentioned in the operator’s account, but encounters cannot be guaranteed. This partial guide does not establish recent sightings, a measured visibility range or an independently verified seasonal calendar. Turtle Rock, Heaven’s Gate and Santa Sofia are discussed separately in the source and should not automatically be treated as exact aliases. The existing Medicare record remains a combined guide, not a newly surveyed boundary or a recommendation to dive to the terrain’s full depth.

A dated operator visit to Medicare

The Philippines Aggressor log dated July 9, 2022 records a Medicare dive during its Southern Leyte itinerary. The crew places the dive in front of the Medicare building at Padre Burgos, supporting the name’s local reference. It does not specify North or South, so the observations cannot resolve the route and depth disagreement above.

The log describes a coral garden with gorgonian fans, branching staghorn and table corals, black corals, sponges and soft leather corals. This gives a more specific picture of the reported reef habitat than a general promise of good coral cover, while remaining a historical observation rather than a present-day condition assessment.

Reported animals include a yellow boxfish, a pygmy seahorse, a crinoid-associated squat lobster, yellowtail barracuda and a hawksbill turtle seen toward the end. These sightings belong to that outing. They do not establish resident individuals, encounter rates or a seasonal calendar, and the source does not identify an exact search location for the smaller subjects.

Keep cross-bay itineraries distinct

Gonzalo Araujo’s LAMAVE trip report independently places Medicare south of Padre Burgos. Its next dives were across the bay at Olly’s Wall and Ghost Town in San Francisco. Those stops are separate sites: wildlife observations attached to the eastern shore or that trip’s later night dive should not be reassigned to Medicare.
