About This Dive Site
An artificial reef on Dauin's sandy slope
Pyramids takes its name from metal reef structures off Dauin, Negros Oriental. The structures and surrounding sand offer different places to look for small animals, making this an option for divers interested in artificial reefs and macro subjects. This guide concerns the Philippine site; similarly named sites in other countries are separate places.
The route described by local operators
Dauin Diving Center describes beginning over seaweed around 5 m, then descending the sandy slope towards metal pyramids at approximately 15–22 m. Its entry lists shore access and a 25 m maximum. Farther down, the operator describes black corals with small associated crustaceans. These are parts of its published route, not a measured minimum and maximum for every structure or every possible dive.
La Tortue's named Pyramid entry describes eight coral-covered metal structures and gives a 5–25 m route range. It recommends an intermediate experience level. Bongo Bongo's Pyramids page identifies an artificial reef and lists a 24 m maximum. The small difference between operators' published maxima does not establish a surveyed seabed limit, and this guide does not average those numbers into a new depth claim.
Reported macro subjects
Bongo Bongo reports giant and warty frogfish, several nudibranch groups and snowflake morays. DDC also describes frogfish, nudibranchs and morays. Treat these as examples of the operators' reported subjects, not promised encounters or measured abundance. The sources do not justify the earlier claim that divers normally see several frogfish colour forms on a single outing.
An Atmosphere Resorts article published in February 2017 records a particular juvenile painted frogfish encounter at Pyramids during the preceding year. That dated observation adds useful historical context to the site's macro reputation. It does not establish that the same animal, number of animals or conditions are present now.
Choosing a suitable visit
DDC's general listing accepts Open Water divers or above, while La Tortue recommends intermediate experience. Those statements describe different operators' participation advice; neither settles a universal certification requirement. Ask which structures the guide intends to visit, whether a shallower route is available and how the planned depth fits your training and recent experience.
The published route descriptions are about looking around reef structures. They do not assess structural stability or establish suitability for entering enclosed spaces. Night-dive availability, current strength and recent visibility also need confirmation for the actual outing. The earlier broad claims about calm conditions and suitability for every diver are not treated as current site assessments.

Multiple sources indicate that many Dauin dive sites are beginner-friendly and suitable for all levels, or for Open Water Divers and above. While Pyramids is an artificial reef with metal structures, no sources strictly require Advanced Open Water certification for this site; rather, it's generally considered accessible to Open Water divers. Critter Republic states that they can cover anything from Open Water to Instructor to Tech diving and beyond.
