The resort's own account
Sangat Island Dive Resort's reef page describes the House Reef in general terms, saying the waters and reefs around Sangat Island were designated a protected marine park in 2004 and that the House Reef and the Coral Gardens remain two of the most popular reef dives in Coron Bay. Its summary table gives Sangat Island as the location, a 10-minute travel time, a 27 m maximum depth and a 15 m visibility figure, and lists Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver and Wreck Diver under requirements, an unusual entry for a reef that is recorded here as stated. The resort's listing in the PADI dive-centre directory says the house reef is an officially recognised and protected marine sanctuary that originates one to three metres from the surface and slopes to a maximum depth of 18 to 28 m. The 27 m table figure and the 18 to 28 m range are both the resort's statements and are not reconciled here.
A snorkeler's description from 2021
Snorkeling Report's Sangat Island page, last updated 10 January 2021, identifies the spot as the resort's house reef and describes a reef stretching in front of the hotel beach, easily accessible and in good overall condition. It says a swim of about 100 m over seagrass and algae leads to a reef flat 1 to 2 m deep with healthy patches of lettuce coral, porous coral and blue branching coral, and that when sea conditions allow it is possible to pass through a small pass near the islet to an outer reef with a spectacular drop-off. It lists the maximum depth as about 6 ft on the flat and more than 20 ft on the drop-off, rates the spot beginner level and names angelfish, pufferfish and clownfish among fish seen, including ocellaris clownfish on the flat and a blackspotted puffer photographed there. Dive Worldwide's resort page describes the house reef as being at the guest's front door, with the mangrove forest and hot spring a kayak ride away.
What is still unverified
Beyond the resort's own figures and one snorkel account, no diver's description of the deeper reef, its currents or its condition on a recent date has been captured. The protected-status and reef-health statements are the operator's claims. Confirm depth, entry and conditions with the resort before planning a dive.
