Nestled within a community marine protected area in Mabini, Batangas, Twin Rocks is one of Anilao's most iconic and beloved dive sites. It stands proudly at the mouth of the Verde Island Passage, a region celebrated globally as the "center of the center" of marine shorefish biodiversity, boasting over 1,736 overlapping species in a 10 km radius. This exceptional location makes Twin Rocks a vibrant hub of marine life, offering an unparalleled diving experience.

Dive Conditions and Site Features

Twin Rocks is an ideal dive site for divers holding an Open Water certification, with a difficulty level suitable for beginners. Divers will find depths typically ranging from 5 m to 25 m, though some areas extend to 30 m. The water temperature is usually a comfortable 26°C to 30°C year-round, though it can occasionally drop to 24°C in cooler months. Currents are generally mild, making for relaxed exploration, but divers should always be aware of potential boat traffic, especially when surfacing.

The dive site is named for its two prominent granitic boulders that rise from a gently sloping sand-and-coral bottom. These natural formations, along with artificial structures like a submerged jeep and reef balls, create a diverse topography of reef, muck, and pinnacle environments. This varied landscape provides abundant hiding spots and feeding grounds, contributing to the site's incredible biodiversity.

Extraordinary Marine Life Encounters

Twin Rocks is renowned as a macro photographer's paradise and the poster child for nudibranch diving in Anilao. Divers can expect to encounter an astounding array of nudibranch species, with estimates ranging from 600 to over 800 species recorded in the surrounding area. Keep your eyes peeled for colorful specimens like the Chromodoris annae, which is very common here.

Beyond the vibrant nudibranchs, the dive site teems with a rich tapestry of marine creatures. Divers frequently observe large schools of Bigeye Trevally (Caranx sexfasciatus) circling the rock formations. Other fascinating inhabitants include the elegant Banded Sea Krait (Laticauda colubrina), masterfully camouflaged Frogfish (Antennariidae spp.), and the flamboyant Spanish Dancer (Hexabranchus sanguineus). You might also spot ribbon eels, jawfish, mantis shrimps, clownfish, lionfish, triggerfish, butterflyfish, and various crabs and shrimps.
