Jemeluk Wall
Acerca de este sitio de buceo
Overview
Jemeluk Wall is a reef slope and wall at Jemeluk Bay on the Amed coast of north-east Bali. Amed Jepun Divers says it begins where Jemeluk Bay turns steep and offers deeper exploration of Amed's reef. Jemeluk Bay, whose shallower slope leads to it, has its own record. SSI's dive site guide on scubago gives the position -8.3375, 115.6621, which is the point used here; it lies about 40 metres from the OpenStreetMap coastline, so it marks the shore rather than a position over the wall, and about 130 metres from the Jemeluk Bay record's point. OpenStreetMap marks a dive attraction named "Amed wall" about 40 metres from the same point. SSI also lists a Jemeluk Secret Wall on the left side of Jemeluk Bay, and Bali Fab Dive describes a Secret Wall on a page of its own; neither is part of this record.
How the site is dived
Amed Jepun Divers describes a shore entry from Jemeluk Bay that leads to the slope, after which the wall unfolds on the diver's right: a drop-off with healthy hard and soft corals and ledges that falls away into the blue. Bali Fab Dive lists the dive as from shore, describes swimming along the submerged wall, and says that further along there is an artificial structure known as the "mailbox" with many fish around it. SSI describes a slope that meets the wall, with soft and hard corals including barrel sponges, huge sea fans, table corals and big formations of acropora.
Depth
Amed Jepun Divers gives a maximum depth of 40 metres and an average of 12 metres. Bali Fab Dive gives 6 to 40 metres. This record uses 40 metres as the maximum and 6 metres, from Bali Fab Dive alone, as the minimum.
Marine life
Amed Jepun Divers names nudibranchs, reef octopuses and shrimp in the crevices; Spanish mackerel, barracuda and even reef sharks out in the blue; leaf scorpionfish on the coral; batfish and angelfish near the drop-off; sea turtles, which it says are frequently seen; and anthias and damselfish around the soft corals. Bali Fab Dive names what it calls bioluminescent anemones, schools of mackerel, yellowback fusiliers and large trevallies.
Conditions and level
Amed Jepun Divers rates the site for all levels in its summary, but says in its description that because of its depth and occasional currents the site is better suited to advanced divers. Bali Fab Dive lists Open Water (level 1) as the level required and calls the site memorable for divers of all skill levels. Because these statements do not agree, this record sets no difficulty rating and no certification requirement. Bali Fab Dive gives the current as none to moderate, visibility of 15 to 30 metres and a water temperature of 26 to 30 degrees, and Amed Jepun Divers mentions occasional currents and good visibility; this record does not use those figures as values. These are operator statements, not measurements. None of the three sources gives a season.
