About This Dive Site
Agus Bay, Mactan
Agus Bay is a wall-diving location in the waters of Mactan, Cebu. Scotty's Action Sports Network describes corals, sponges and reef fish along the wall, with opportunities to look for small subjects such as nudibranchs and pipefish. Those are operator reports, not guaranteed encounters.
Agus Bay and Hadsan
The operator uses Hadsan as another name for Agus Bay, but also describes the two as adjoining extensions. That wording does not establish a precise boundary between routes. Confirm which section your operator intends to visit; this guide does not create or merge a separate Hadsan record.
Scotty's describes the location as useful for training and underwater photography. Suitability still depends on the planned route, conditions and diver. Its roughly ten-minute boat journey is measured from its own Mactan base, not from every resort or departure point.
Confirm the meeting place, actual departure time, entry arrangements and planned depth before booking. This partial guide does not establish a current timetable, fixed visibility, complete depth extent or recent reef-health assessment.
Position and access in the dated sources
Scotty's Action Sports Network's Agus Bay page, captured by the Wayback Machine on 29 February 2024, puts the site 4 kilometres and about ten minutes by boat from its dive centre on a bearing of 218 degrees, and says Agus Bay is also known as Hadsan. Diverout's listing places it along the southeastern coastline of Mactan Island facing the Hilutungan Channel, with a fringing reef flat that transitions abruptly into a steep coral wall. A Lakwatsero blog post of 25 January 2011 describes diving Agus with Club Kon-Tiki from Maribago as a stop just a few minutes from the resort. The SunStar report of 30 December 2023 on Lapu-Lapu City's environmental-fee ordinance lists Agus Point and Hadsan Beach among 53 named dive sites to be covered by a one-time 100 peso fee, which the council had approved on third reading on 20 December 2023 and which was then awaiting the mayor's signature; whether and how that fee is collected today is not confirmed here.
What divers have reported
Scotty's says the site usually has visibility of around 20 metres and names cuttlefish, nudibranchs, pipefish, mandarin fish and pufferfish among its sightings, with pygmy seahorses for those with very good eyes. The Lakwatsero writer logged low current, visibility of 15 to 30 metres and mostly small residents such as Moorish idols, parrotfish, sea snakes, triggerfish, nudibranchs, shrimps and gobies, with no pelagics on that January 2011 dive; the maximum depth of 86 feet in that post is one diver's profile, not a site range. Kontiki Divers' site list describes an easy wall dive with an array of sponges, ferns and anemones, wording that Scotty's page shares almost word for word, so those two descriptions count as one lineage. Seven Seas Dive Center, Kontiki's merged partner, calls Agus Bay (Hadsan reef) a firm favourite among photographers.
Cautions and open points
Diverout notes that tidal currents through the channel can pick up suddenly along the deeper section of the wall, that heavy motorised outrigger traffic calls for ascending along a deployed surface marker buoy, and that conditions are generally calm within the bay but can turn choppy when wind crosses the channel. Scubago's Agus entry gives 3 to 40 metres and large table corals, Diverout gives 4 to 35 metres; these ranges are not reconciled here. Emerald Green Diving Center lists Hadsan and Agus as separate points, while Scotty's calls them extensions of each other; the boundary stays unresolved.
