Bahura

About This Dive Site
A reef with slopes and drop-offs
Eagle Point Resort places Bahura northwest of Caban Island and describes slopes, overhangs and strong currents. Its listed maximum is 100 feet (about 30 m); Marco Vincent Divers gives a broader 10–42 m profile.
Choose the intended reef section
These listings do not define a single shared route boundary. The shallower profile and deeper range should remain attributed to their sources rather than being combined into one standard dive. Ask which section the outing covers and what experience that route requires.
What remains uncertain
The operator descriptions support a reef visit with potentially demanding conditions, but they do not establish current conditions, reliable seasonal visibility or site-specific encounter frequencies. References to overhangs are not evidence of a mapped or suitable overhead route. This partial guide keeps those gaps explicit while retaining the named site.
Operator listings
Eagle Point Resort's dive-site page, in a Wayback snapshot of April 2026, puts Bahura 10 to 15 minutes by boat from Eagle Point with an average depth of 50 ft and a maximum of 100 ft, calm with a strong current that can get rough on the surface, visibility up to 80 ft, and a dive of slopes, small drop-offs, overhangs and swim-throughs that it says is much the same as Beatrice Rock, with teeming fish life and fierce currents. Marco Vincent Divers' Anilao list, in a Wayback snapshot of February 2020, gives 10 to 42 m and labels Bahura for recreational, advanced and tec dives. Aqua-Venture's table, in a January 2026 snapshot, lists Bahura at 30 m with strong current, coral reef and pelagics as attractions and wide-angle lenses, and lists Bahura Kanto separately at 40 m. Bambu Villa's depth table gives Bahura as 15 to 30 m. Anilao Diving and Resorts' Beatrice pages say the condition and style there are much the same as in Bahura, and its own Bahura page, last modified in June 2024, gives a typical 5 to 30 m range, generally mild to moderate current and a mix of slopes and drop-offs.
Forum reports on current and timing
In a ScubaBoard thread of September 2010, one poster suggests Bahura and Beatrice Rock as the two best sites but says both can have some serious currents at times, to the point where most boats do not like to anchor for fear of damaging the boat, and adds that Bahura is good even on a slack tide. Another poster in the same thread suggests trying Bahura and Mainit Point in the morning during full moon for a chance to see sharks, saying ripping currents during full moon may bring them out, and warns of some big triggers there too. These are individual dated reports, not an encounter rate.
Names that overlap
Bahura is the Filipino word for reef, as Anilao Diving and Resorts notes, and several nearby sites carry it: Aqua-Venture lists Bahura Kanto and Layag-layag Bahura as separate entries, the Anilao Critters and Resorts map of 2018 lists Bahura (Reef) as number 15, and the SSI MyDiveGuide Anilao page places a Bahura Kanto description, with a corner where current is usually strong and a small hole in the wall at 15 m, under the heading Bahura. REEF's record for its survey site Bahura (Caban Island), retrieved in October 2026, holds a single survey reporting one species. Which reef section an operator means by Bahura should be confirmed before the dive.
