Bantigue

Bantigue is a renowned muck dive site located on Malapascua Island, Philippines, often drawing comparisons to the famous Lembeh Strait due to its unusual and abundant macro life. The dive begins over a shallow reef that gradually transitions into a sandy bottom at approximately 12 meters, creating an ideal habitat for a diverse array of small and cryptic creatures. This site is a macro photographer's paradise, offering excellent opportunities to spot unique marine life that thrives in the sandy and silty substrate. Divers can expect to encounter a fascinating assortment of gobies and shrimp cohabiting in intricate burrows, as well as tiny mantis shrimp nestled within small rocks. Other common sightings include vibrant fire urchins, elusive zebra crabs, and the striking dwarf lionfish. Cuttlefish, seamoths, various crabs, snake eels, frogfish, and numerous species of nudibranchs are also frequently observed, adding to the site's rich biodiversity. Snowflake moray eels can be found, and one particular rock is home to a large carpet anemone where anemonefish aggressively guard their orange eggs. With careful observation, divers might also discover porcelain crabs, banded boxer shrimp, and other lionfish species hiding beneath the anemone. Occasionally, lucky divers may even spot mimic octopuses and stargazers. Bantigue is also highly regarded for night diving, when many of these creatures become more active and observable, making it one of Malapascua's premier locations for critter hunting after sunset.
