Ka Osting

A Malapascua muck-diving site

Ka Osting is a shallow dive described by Malapascua operators for its small-animal life and sandy habitat. Thresher Shark Divers lists it separately beside Bantigi, while Kokay's publishes it under the combined name East Garden / Ka Osting. These naming differences are useful to discuss when arranging a trip: confirm the site and route your operator means. This guide does not establish surveyed boundaries between neighbouring dives.

Terrain and reported wildlife

Devocean describes a sloping reef that reaches sand with scattered coral formations. Its guides search this terrain for frogfish, ghost pipefish, dragonets, mantis shrimp and other small animals. Kokay's describes sand and rock, with reported nudibranchs, crabs, squat lobsters and dwarf lionfish. Thresher highlights hairy frogfish at Ka Osting itself. These are operator accounts, not recent surveys or promises that a particular animal will be present. Broad names such as frogfish and ghost pipefish do not identify an exact species, and no new species-level records are inferred here.

Different published depth limits

The sources do not provide one consistent depth profile. Thresher's current site section and its contributed PADI listing report 12 metres. Devocean gives a range of 6–15 metres, while Kokay's lists a maximum of 16 metres. Different routes may explain the variation, but that explanation has not been verified. The maximum-depth summary therefore remains disputed rather than selecting one number as settled. Ask which section will be visited and what depth is planned for your group.

Choosing and arranging a dive

Devocean lists Ka Osting for students, Open Water divers, underwater photography and night dives. Kokay's describes it as suitable for Open Water divers and says current is usually absent. Those are operator descriptions, not a guarantee of conditions or a universal qualification rule. A site's difficulty label is not a certification. Confirm the experience required for the actual outing, particularly if you are considering a night dive, and ask about the briefing, guide arrangements and equipment.

Travel estimates also differ: Thresher gives five minutes and Kokay's fifteen minutes. Departure location and trip arrangements have not been reconciled, so neither is a guaranteed journey time. Check the meeting place, transport, current availability and price directly. This guide does not establish a reliable site-specific best-season window or current visibility.
