About This Dive Site

A channel reef in Puerto Galera

Capt’n Gregg’s describes Batangas Channel as a channel reef with variable current. Atlantis also lists the named site in its Puerto Galera map.

La Laguna Beach Club gives a 5–15 m reference for its Batangas Channel entry. This describes an operator-listed profile, not the surveyed extent of the channel or a recommended dive depth.

Planning a visit

Ask the dive team which part of the channel is on the proposed route, the intended depth, and how entry and pickup will work. Current conditions and required experience need to be established for the actual outing. A shallow depth reference alone does not establish an easy dive.

Evidence limits

The earlier listing’s 18 m maximum has not been reconciled with the operator’s profile. Current visibility, water temperature, seasonal reliability and wildlife encounter rates remain unverified. The available maps identify the site but do not supply verified entry coordinates for this guide.

Why the route needs a specific briefing

Action Divers' Batangas Channel description outlines a drift from outside into the channel along gently sloping reef. It names hard and soft corals and nudibranchs, gives a 14-metre maximum, and favours a weak ebbing current. This is a more specific condition than simply choosing an ebb tide: the strength and the intended section matter. Its shallow-route description does not resolve the older maximum-depth claim or establish the limits of every possible channel dive.

Infinity Resort's named Batangas Channel account describes a gentle descent towards sand, with staghorn coral in the shallows, tree corals, sea fans and basket sponges. Its reported fish include anemonefish, wrasse, parrotfish and triggerfish, with frogfish described as camouflaged among corals. These habitat details explain the combination of wider reef scenes and small-subject searches without establishing current abundance. Infinity gives a 15-metre maximum and also favours an ebb-tide drift inside the channel. The two operators' similar recommendations are not a live assessment of current strength or a guarantee that their itineraries cover identical ground.

Casalay's Batangas Channel entry gives a 5–20 metre profile and describes an ebb-tide outing from the channel mouth towards open water, around 15 metres on average. That differs from the inward descriptions above. Its account highlights large sponges, irregular coral formations, table corals and green tree corals, with pipefish among its reported small subjects. The directional difference is retained: it may reflect a different section or itinerary, but the sources do not settle that question. Ask the operator to identify the intended start and finish rather than translating these descriptions into a fixed route.
