About This Dive Site
Bonito Island is described as a diving location by Anilao operators. Their descriptions of depth and current differ, so this partial guide does not present one profile as established.
This record follows the operator-map point for Bonito. A historical community-directory point lies about 631 metres away. The exact dive location is disputed; neither an island centre nor a resort location is substituted for it.
Depth, entry arrangements, visibility, seasonal conditions and marine-life observations are not established for this record. Confirm the location, present access and diving conditions with a local operator before planning a dive.
One operator's description
The Anilao Diving website's Bonito Island page (undated) gives a depth of 5 to 25 metres (16 to 82 feet) and says the site is about 20 minutes by banca boat from the resort. It reports "Slight to moderate current, visibility is about 10m./30ft." and says the dive "can be one way or return to the boat depends on the current." The page places Bonito in front of the Bonito resort and describes a "long slope sandy bottom with a mix of scattered big and small rocks with crushed corals, such as big basket corals and soft sponges." It calls the site ideal for underwater photography and for beginner divers, and says it offers a wide range of clown fish, dart fish and reef fishes.
The operator map entry
The Anilao operator dive map (Divers and Critters family, retrieved 2026-10-08) numbers the site "34. Bonito" and gives 5 to 45 metres (15 to 145 feet), a "gradual sloop and drop off" and "Very strong current". That conflicts with the "slight to moderate" current and the 25 metre maximum in the Anilao Diving page. The two descriptions are recorded side by side and are not reconciled here.
A photographer's guide
DivePhotoGuide's underwater photographer's guide to Anilao, dated August 14, 2018, says Bonito Island is a "vibrant marine sanctuary" with "white sandy slopes, rocky outcroppings, with a variety of sponges and healthy corals." It names Bonito Island and Sombrero as classic wide-angle sites for a break from macro photography.
Trip arrangements
Eagle Point Beach and Dive Resort's dive-package page, read from a Wayback Machine copy retrieved 2026-10-08, lists Bonito among the trips that carry a Php4,000.00 additional boat cost shared by the number of divers. The same page's general terms say package dive sites should only be 30 minutes away by boat and that an additional boat fee applies for a preferred dive spot based on distance, while its own site descriptions put Bonito and Malajibomanoc Islands at the eastern end of Maricaban Island, 45 to 50 minutes by boat from Eagle Point. Prices and arrangements change, so confirm them with the operator.
