Cabuan Point

Cabuan Point is a Camiguin reef-dive record on the island's southern coast. PADI's Cabuan page, contributed by Mantangale Alibuag Dive Resort, describes a steep slope reaching around 35 metres, hard and soft corals, and large rock formations. The contributor reports jacks, barracudas, trevally, turtles and rays; these are possible observations, not a guaranteed wildlife itinerary. Blue Season separately lists an experience named Cabuan / Giant Clam with a shallower 3–18 metre profile. Its operator account is evidence of that named offering, but does not prove that its boundaries, the wider Point dive and the historical marine-sanctuary survey below are identical. Confirm which part of Cabuan a proposed dive actually visits.

Community conservation history

A DOST-PCAARRD report published on 4 October 2016 identifies a dive site in Barangay Cabuan, Guinsiliban, and documents a community conservation project there. It describes the Cabuan Community Village Coastal Tour Association working with government agencies and Sangkalikasan Producers Cooperative on coral restoration. The association then had 61 members and described monitoring and protecting the barangay’s coastal and marine resources as its objective. The report records ten government-designed nursery units and two cooperative-designed units, holding 5,000 and 3,000 coral fragments respectively. These are historical project figures, not a count of nursery structures that a diver can expect to find today. The article also describes an educational briefing and opportunities to experience restoration as part of a dive. It does not establish that those activities are still offered, that visitors can handle coral, or that current booking arrangements are unchanged.

A dated survey of the sanctuary

The Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation's April 2015 Camiguin survey separately names Cabuan Marine Sanctuary in Guinsiliban. Its account describes a gradual sandy slope with coral heads, and a reef approximately 100 metres wide before descending to about 20 metres. Those measurements describe the surveyed sanctuary section; they are not a site-wide maximum for the Point record. Researchers experienced a slight current during their visit, while residents reported stronger currents that swept away marker buoys. The report therefore records different observations and times, rather than one permanent current rating.

The survey measured live hard-coral cover at 7–8 metres depth as 18.3 percent inside the sanctuary and 10.1 percent outside. It described deeper sand and rubble, as well as soft coral. These 2015 findings provide a historical comparison for the conservation account, not a current reef-health assessment or a promise of particular sightings. The report also describes community guides and equipment rental at that time. Current boundaries, moorings, access and any restoration visit need confirmation locally.
