Old Volcano

Old Volcano dive site in Camiguin is characterized by sharp volcanic pinnacles and massive lava rock formations, a direct reflection of the island's geological history. The site features a gradually sloping wall that extends beyond 50 meters, offering a dramatic volcanic wall dive. It's an excellent spot for macro photographers, with nudibranchs congregating on the pinnacles and various shrimp species at cleaning stations. Colorful soft corals colonize the volcanic rock faces, making for a vibrant underwater landscape. The depth range and occasional currents necessitate advanced certification and good buoyancy control.

Operator and report accounts

Coraya Divers' page for its Camiguin dive base, retrieved 8 October 2026, says the site "directly in front of the volcano is characterized by the long steep wall, which is dived as a one-way dive". It describes "Centuries old cooled lava and large rock formations" at every depth, soft corals "surrounded by razor clams", frequent mackerels in the blue water, and shrimp and frogfish for macro lovers. It says the highlights including "Old Vulcano" are "only 10-20 minutes boat ride away" from the resort and gives the boat ride to the site as 20 minutes.

A Lakwatsero dive report first published in September 2012 describes a dive at "Old Vulcan, west of the island" after "around fifteen minutes of boat ride". It says "The site is made up of sharp pinnacles and huge lava rocks" with "a small gradually sloping wall on a maximum depth of around 50 to 60 meters". The author reports a manta ray passing about two meters away. That is a single dated sighting, not an expected encounter. The report adds that visibility and current "are generally good all year round", which is one diver's statement.

Other Camiguin names near the volcano

Camiguin Freediving, a freediving operator, describes "Old Volcano Caves" as a dive with "a dramatic volcanic wall", macro life, and "a shallow swim-through cave at just 5 metres depth, home to a colony of resident bats". It separately describes "Old Volcano Bay" as boat or shore accessible, offering "depths down to 80 metres". Scubago also lists Old Volcano Bay as its own site, with a slope from 2 to 30 meters. This guide does not assert whether those are the same site as this record.

Scubago describes this record's site as beginning "at just 5 meters" and plunging to "depths exceeding 60 meters". A DumagueteInfo article calls it "a base of an extinct volcano" with turtles munching at sponges. The 50 to 60 meter and 60 plus meter figures are not reconciled with each other.
