Coca Cola Wreck

About This Dive Site
Easy Diving reports finding this freighter wreck in Campomanes Bay on 30 January 2004 after an extended search. That is the operator's historical account, not an independently verified vessel identification. Present depth, access and condition are unknown.
This is a partial site guide based on retained dive listings. Conditions, access, seasonal suitability and current operating arrangements have not been checked by a local diver. The map position comes from a published dive-site dataset and should be confirmed with a local operator before planning a visit.

Where the nickname comes from
Easy Diving’s account, preserved in a 2025 archive, says the freighter carried bottled soft drinks and associates the find with Coca-Cola bottles. This explains the operator’s nickname for the wreck, rather than establishing a registered vessel name or independently verified cargo history.
Earlier copies of the discovery story
Easy Diving's dive-sites page archived in April 2014 already carried essentially the same discovery account as the 2025 snapshot: the crew found the freighter in Campomanes Bay on 30 January 2004 "after a search of nearly one year", believed it had sunk "some 25 years ago", and wrote that "everyone believed it has been a Pepsi freighter" before Coca-Cola bottles were found. A guest review of Easy Diving on taucher.net dated 23 January 2005 already calls it "das nun schon fast legendäre Pepsi-Wrack", a beverage freighter sunk in 1980 carrying Coca-Cola bottles, so the Pepsi nickname and the 1980 date were in circulation within a year of the find. Those are the operator's and a guest's statements, not a vessel identification.
Directory and visitor accounts
Zentacle's directory record, which supplies this pin's coordinates, describes "a freighter sunk in 1980" that "was loaded with San Miguel Beer and Coca Cola bottles", with "free descend down to 50m" and the option "to dive along the reef in 5m"; it grades the site advanced. The San Miguel cargo and the 50-metre depth appear only in that directory entry and are not confirmed by the operator pages. Diving Squad, a blog by a PADI instructor who dived Sipalay in 2023, groups the "Coca-Cola" wreck with SS Panay and MS Jojo in Campomanes Bay and says of them that "the visibility is variable but generally bad", so they are rarely dived and, in its words, "never penetrated". Takatuka Divers' archived 2004 and 2008 lists name three nearby wrecks, SS Panay, MS Jojo and "a Filipino wheat freighter", without using the Coca-Cola name; whether the wheat freighter is the same vessel is not established here. Artistic Diving's 2009 and 2019 dive-site lists do not include a Coca-Cola wreck at all.
