This intermediate-level dive site promises a vibrant tapestry of marine life and stunning coral formations, making it a must-visit for certified divers.
Dive Site Topography and Conditions
- Difficulty: Intermediate
- Certification Required: Open Water certification
- Depth: Divers will find a steep coral slope that begins from a shallow plateau at approximately 7-10 meters, dramatically dropping to a wall that bottoms out near 40 meters. While the site extends deeper, much of its captivating beauty is accessible within typical Open Water limits.
- Current: Expect moderate currents, which often make for a thrilling drift dive experience. We recommend being comfortable with drift diving techniques to fully enjoy this site.
- Water Temperature: The waters around Panglao are comfortably warm, with temperatures generally ranging from 26°C to 30°C year-round.
- Site Types: This dynamic dive site offers a combination of reef, wall, drift, and drop-off diving.
- Hazards: Potential hazards include moderate currents, depth, and occasional boat traffic. Always remain aware of your surroundings and follow your instructor's guidance.
Marine Life Encounters
Diver's Heaven truly lives up to its name, offering an astonishing array of marine biodiversity. Divers will be immersed in a world teeming with both large pelagic species and fascinating macro critters:
- Pelagic Thrills: Keep your eyes peeled for impressive schools of Bigeye Trevally (Caranx sexfasciatus), which are frequently seen forming mesmerizing "tornado" formations in the blue. You can also encounter majestic Great Barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), often swirling in their own spectacular "vortex."
- Turtle Haven: Green and Hawksbill Turtles are an almost constant presence at this dive site. Divers will find Green Sea Turtles (Chelonia mydas) and Hawksbill Turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) gracefully cruising the drop-off and grazing on the healthy reef.
- Macro Wonders: For those with a keen eye for the small and camouflaged, the corals hide incredible treasures. Search for the elusive Leaf Scorpionfish (Taenianotus triacanthus), the intricately patterned Ornate Ghost Pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus), and the wonderfully camouflaged Giant Frogfish (Antennarius commerson) tucked away among the vibrant hard and soft corals.
