About This Dive Site
Overview
Barefoot Conservation describes Farondi Cave as a dive site with a shallow soft coral reef and a long sloping tunnel, its bottom covered in white sand, sea fans and barrel sponges. It says this makes a habitat for tiger shrimp and unusual signal gobies, and that divers can expect stalactites and other unusual limestone formations on the arching ceiling. Barefoot's itinerary makes it the second dive of a day that starts at Wagmab or Gamfi. La Galigo Liveaboard's Misool Explorer itinerary describes a light cave dive named Goa Farondi, with a chance of swim-throughs and of meeting the bumphead parrotfish population. In that itinerary it is paired on the same morning with 3 Rocks, a collection of submerged pinnacles that La Galigo says is home to barracuda and trevallies.
The Farondi islands
Dive The World places the limestone islet of Farondi some 20 km east of Misool Island and says tunnels, caverns and dives on coloured walls are the order of the day there. It also describes other cave dives on Farondi: Goa Besar on the island's southern side, and Verena's Garden at its south-west corner, where the main feature is an air chamber enclosed within the island's wall. Misool Luxury summarises Farondi as limestone walls, caves and soft coral, with exposure and current that vary by site and tide. The Bird's Head Seascape Misool map labels its pin for the site "Farondi Cave and Wall" and gives a GPS position for it.
