About This Dive Site
Ligpo Cavern is a named dive location in the operator map and dive-site lists. This partial record preserves the mapped name without treating the nearby island or pinnacle as a confirmed alias.
Operator listings distinguish Ligpo Cavern from Ligpo Island. Two points in the same map family disagree about its position. The exact cavern location and its relationship to the published Ligpo Island site remain unresolved.
Depth, entry arrangements, visibility, seasonal conditions and marine-life observations are not established for this record. Confirm the location, present access and diving conditions with a local operator before planning a dive.
A pass-through cave with lobsters
Waypoints.ph lists Ligpo Cavern in Bauan, Batangas, with a narrative credited to EPPGarcia in 2013. It describes "a small underwater pass-through cave inhabited by lobsters" and says "This dive spot goes by many names: Ligpo Cavern, Lobster Cavern, Shark Cave, etc." It is "known for the numerous lobsters that dwell in this small pass-through cave."
The same narrative says the cave entrance is "at about 27ft depth along the reef wall that drops to over 80ft," while its top exit opening is "at just about 10ft amidst very lush area of soft corals." Divers usually do a boat dive, and the boat "usually just anchors right above the cave top." The author's recommended plan is to back-roll from the boat, explore the top opening, follow the wall westward to the cave entrance, explore the cave, go down the wall to about 60 or 70 feet, and then return along the ledge toward the boat. The author adds that the ledge is shallow and offers what may be a scenic safety stop. This is one 2013 contributor's plan and not a guide to current conditions or a substitute for local briefing.
What the operator maps say
The Anilao operator dive map (Divers and Critters family, retrieved 2026-10-08) numbers the site "33. Ligpo cavern" and gives 3 to 65 metres (10 to 208 feet), a drop off and wall, a steep slope and cavern, soft and hard corals, and slight to no currents. A companion list on Divers and Critters numbers it 33 as "Ligpo (Cavern)", next to "Ligpo ( Pinacle)". The depth range on the map is broader than the cave depths given by Waypoints.ph; the two are different kinds of figure, and the map range is not a profile for the cave itself.
Neighbouring Ligpo sites and the Shark Cave name
Blue Ribbon Divers, a resort at Ligaya in Mabini, describes Ligpo Island as lying "just on the other side of the small rocky island from Shark Cave." Its dive-site index lists Ligpo Island at 5 to 35 metres and a separate Ligpo Deep entry, but no entry named Ligpo Cavern. Because Waypoints.ph gives Shark Cave as another name for Ligpo Cavern, the Blue Ribbon wording may refer to the same cave. This is a naming match between two organisations and is not confirmed. The relationship between the mapped Ligpo Cavern and the published Ligpo Island site remains unresolved here.
